Singer/actress Vanessa Hudgens has vowed to uphold her image as a role model for young girls – because she “only has one shot” to impress her fans.
The star came under fire when nude photographs of her were leaked online last year.
But the Disney teen queen insists she is doing her best to live up to the aspirations of her impressionable young admirers.
She says, “At the end of the day I have to be happy with myself. Just going to live my life and enjoy doing it. You only have one shot… of course I want to be a good role model and try to do my best but I’m still me.”

She’s only 19, but High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has some sage advice on love and relationships.
“If you really love someone, you shouldn’t have to work at it,” the actress tells Cosmo Girl! for its July/August issue, reports Entertainment Tonight. “You finish each others’ sentences and have the same sense of humor.”
As for her own love life – she’s dating HSM costar Zac Efron, 20 – it appears she’s taken her own advice.
According to the magazine, the two share an easy and affectionate relationship. Upon seeing the couple together, the magazine interviewer observes, “When [Vanessa] sees Zac, she runs over and they kiss, oblivious to the dozen of us in the room. She rubs his stomach, he puts his arm around her – these gestures say more than any statement she could make.”
Hudgens and Efron, who are currently filming HSM 3 in Utah, have certainly shown they’re not opposed to a little PDA. Prime example: This year’s MTV Movie Awards, where she planted a kiss on him as his name was announced.
But Hudgens – who endured a nude photo scandal last year – cautions teen girls who may be thinking of becoming more intimate with their boyfriends.
“You have to think it through, not just do something spur of the moment,” she says. “So that after it happens you won’t regret it. I think girls can be infatuated with their boyfriends and they have to remember [to put themselves] first.”

She stars in the Disney phenomenon High School Musical, has her second pop album out this month and dates her costar, heartthrob Zac Efron. (Think Brangelina 2.0.) But the moment we knew Vanessa Hudgens had really hit the big time? When legions of young fans dressed as her HSM character, Gabriella, for Halloween last year. “Some girls came up to me and were like, ‘I’m you!’” says Hudgens, laughing. But the costume (a red spaghetti-strap dress) and Gabriella’s otherwise prim style are really the furthest thing from the actress’s own laid-back look, i.e., long bohemian skirts and flared jeans. While she admits that she’s a “Christian Louboutin freak,” Hudgens swears that even with her newfound success, she’s not going to turn into a label snob. Proof: Her current obsession is the moderately priced line Free People. “If something’s cool and funky and I like it, it doesn’t matter how much it costs,” she says. Looking to her favorite style-setters Mary-Kate Olsen, Victoria Beckham and Nicole Richie, who “have fun with fashion,” Hudgens prefers to put herself together based on her mood. So how does a great dress, like the ones she’s wearing here, make her feel? “Feminine and sexy– just how a girl should!”

All six of the High School Musical stars have officially signed on for High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Productions announced Monday.
Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel will star in the third and final installment, a feature film. The first two movies aired to a record number of viewers on The Disney Channel.
Director Kenny Ortega tells PEOPLE he’s excited about working one last time with the cast, a group of virtually unknown actors before the first HSM movie’s January 2006 debut.
“I am the luckiest guy in the world and I know it,” Ortega says. “This will be our last time together and I love working with these kids so much. It’s going to be great.”
Tisdale, who will reprise her role as school diva Sharpay, says she looks forward to returning to East High set in Utah one last time.
“I’m excited,” Tisdale tells PEOPLE. “But it’s going to be sad. It seems like it will be graduation and I’ll be crying while we’re filming.”
According to the studio, HSM 3: Senior Year finds high school seniors Troy [Efron] and Gabriella [Hudgens] facing the prospect of being separated from one another as they head off in different directions to college. Joined by the rest of the Wildcat crew, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about their future.
