Speaking of Spiderman….”Spider-Man 3″ will be the most expensive movie ever made when it opens May 4. While industry insiders claim Sony Pictures spent $350 million on production alone, Hollywood reporter Kim Masters reports in Radar magazine that the total bill – including prints and marketing costs – is more than $500 million, making the Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst flick a record-breaker. One of the film’s producers, Laura Ziskin, disputed the $350 million number, and said, “I refuse to say the [real] number because it makes me choke. ‘Spider-Man 3′ was a super-expensive movie – the most expensive film we’ve ever made. But there’s no way you can get to $300 million.” A Sony rep claimed it only cost $270 million. The production spent more than $1 million a day shooting on location in union-heavy New York, and it also employed expensive computer-generated special effects.
It looks like parenthood agrees with actor Tobey Maguire and fiancée Jennifer Meyer, if these first photos of the couple with new daughter Ruby Sweetheart are any indication. The Seabiscuit actor and Meyer, a successful jewelry designer, recently celebrated their first Christmas Eve with their 8-week-old at a Beverly Hills park.
“This is truly the best time of my life,” Meyer, 29, recently told USA Today. “I’m walking on air. I’m getting married, and starting a family.”
“It’s completely indescribable,” Maguire, 31, said of fatherhood during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on December 15.
Why the name Ruby Sweetheart?
“Jen’s grandmother, who passed away recently, would always call her ‘Sweetheart,’” Maguire explained to Jay Leno. “We named her that to honor her grandmother.” As for Ruby? “We just like the name.”
What’s Tobey like as a dad?
“He’s having the best time with Jen, taking care of the baby,” says a friend. And Sam Raimi, director of Spider-Man 3 (out May 4), tells Us, “I know Tobey to be a perfectionist, and very in touch with his emotions. He’ll be the most sensitive, loving father.”
What did Tobey think of the birthing process?
“Nobody really coached me on it,” Maguire told Leno. “They say, ‘OK, catch her!’ I’m like, ‘What do I do?’ I ended up just kind of putting my hand on her while the doctor put her on Mom’s belly.”
What do their friends say?
“They’re the coolest parents,” a Maguire pal tells Us. “They’re the first of all their friends to have a baby, and the friends are eating it up.”
Will they marry soon?
Engaged since April, the pair actually “wanted to get married before the baby was born,” says a family friend. “But they couldn’t get it together in time.”
