I’m so bummed! ‘United States of Tara’ was by far one of my favorite shows!! Darnit!
At least they’ve renewed ‘Nurse Jackie’. If they would have canceled both – I’d have no reason to keep Showtime! Still, major bummer!
Showtime is losing some of its personality: The pay cabler has canceled United States of Tara.
A Showtime rep confirms to TVLine that the Emmy winning dramedy’s current third season — set to conclude on June 20 — will be its last.
On the bright side, the cable net has renewed Edie Falco’s Nurse Jackie for a fourth season.
Tara, which netted leading lady Toni Collette numerous accolades including an Emmy and a Golden Globe, has been averaging just north of 300K viewers a week this season — down from 560K for Season 2. By comparison, Jackie has been attracting 762K viewers.
Showtime’s serial killer drama ‘Dexter’ has landed a new star. No word on the role he’ll play, but Colin Hanks has signed on to join season six!
Traditionally, the show has had one main villain that its titular character — the disturbed, justice-seeking medical examiner/serial killer Dexter — battles until the final episode. Past adversaries have included Jimmy Smits and John Lithgow, whose performance helped the series reach new heights and earned him an Emmy.
As TV Line notes, however, the show’s executive producer has said that there will not be one core opponent in the upcoming season, so there’s no clear clue as to who Hanks could play.
Hanks, who guest starred on “Mad Men,” as a Brooklyn priest, starred in the police show, “The Good Guys,” with Bradley Whitford; it was cancelled after one season. He’ll feature in the upcoming film, “Lucky,” to be released later this year.
This isn’t the only news out of “Dexter,” today; Showtime released a new teaser trailer, which you can see below. Needless to say, they’re hyping the upcoming season pretty heavily.
Fresh off her turn in the summer blockbuster film “Sex and the City 2,” Emmy® and Tony® Award winner Cynthia Nixon has just signed on as a guest star in four episodes of the new Showtime dark comedy series The Big C, starring Laura Linney. Nixon will play “Rebecca,” Linney’s flaky, long-lost college roommate who re-enters her life and shakes things up in a wild way. The 13-episode series is currently shooting in Stamford, Connecticut for an August 16th at 10:30p PT/ET premiere, immediately following WEEDS.
Okay can we take a minute and talk about her extensions? How did I miss this picture when it came out!? She showed up with this doll hair woven onto her head at the London premiere of SATC2 back in May.
Acclaimed actress Julia Stiles has joined the cast of Showtime’s Emmy® nominated drama series Dexter. Stiles, who will appear in ten episodes in the upcoming fifth season, will play a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in the wake of the death of his wife. Production on season five begins this month and will premiere in the fall on Showtime.
Do you watch Dexter? I’ve only seen a couple episodes, it’s a bit heavy for me. But I like Julia Stiles, so I’m torn!
Michael C. Hall of “Dexter” fame has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but is on the road to recovery. In a statement yesterday, Hall said he was fortunate to be diagnosed with a “treatable and curable condition,” and thanked his doctors and nurses for their expertise. The actor’s spokesguy, Craig Bankey, said the cancer is in remission and Hall’s treatment will continue as planned. Hall, 38, is expected to attend Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards with his wife and “Dexter” co-star, Jennifer Carpenter. Bankey said Hall will return to filming the fifth season of the creepy Showtime drama later this year.
Three-time Academy Award® nominee, three-time Emmy® winner, and SAG® and Golden Globe® Award winner Laura Linney comes to series television on Showtime as star and executive producer of the provocative new half-hour original dark comedy series, THE BIG ‘C’ (working title). Linney plays a reserved suburban wife and mother whose recent cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life and find hope, humor and the light side of a dark situation, while managing her immature but well-meaning husband, played by Oliver Platt. THE BIG ‘C’ will begin shooting 13 episodes later this spring for a fall 2010 debut, it was announced today by SHOWTIME President of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt.
“Laura Linney is the consummate actor and producer, and we’re thrilled she has chosen to come to SHOWTIME in this extraordinary series,” said Greenblatt. “The character and her journey are complex, requiring layered nuances of comedy and drama which I believe no one else could do better than Laura. And she’s surrounded by a gifted ensemble of actors who will bring this show vividly to life.”
I didn’t watch this show until just recently when I finally got Showtime. I watched all 12 episodes on OnDemand, and I LOVED it! I really loved this show! It’s a bit disturbing at times, but it’s really quite amazing! I can’t wait for season 2!
