Shirley Maclaine vows to never return to Broadway

Shirley Maclaine

Shirley MacLaine has vowed never to return to Broadway – because she feels too old to sing and dance on stage.

MacLaine began her film career following a stint on the New York stage in 1954’s The Pajama Game.

But at 74-years-old, MacLaine insists her lifelong career in entertainment has suppressed her desire to return to Broadway.

She says, “I can barely walk across town now. I don’t think so (I will return). When you start (dancing) at three like I did, it becomes second nature and it’s not necessarily such a wonderful thing when you get older. I don’t like the exercise.”

Can you blame her? At her age, I’d feel like I’ve worked all of my life. It’s time for a break!

Audrey Hepburn recommended Shirley MacLaine for Chanel role

Shirley MacLaine

Shirley MacLaine has late Hollywood star Audrey Hepburn to thank for her new role playing fashion icon Coco Chanel – because she recommended her for the part more than forty years ago.

MacLaine, who will take the role in a forthcoming mini-series – entitled Coco Chanel – claims Hepburn likened her to the French fashion designer, when the pair starred together in 1961 movie The Children’s Hour.

MacLaine says, “She told me I should play Coco Chanel. I said, ‘She was a little scrunched over and very short.’ And she said, ‘But the spirit of the woman is what matches your spirit’. She was obviously right.”

And the 74-year-old admits the comparison isn’t necessarily flattering: “I think we are both colorful, we are both rude, and we are both spontaneous. We can’t hold what we feel to be the honest opinion in. And I think we are both probably dead.”

Shirley Maclaine is convinced her pet dog talks to her

Shirley Maclaine

Veteran actress Shirley Maclaine is convinced that her pet dog can communicate with her. She owns eleven other canines, but insists her relationship with her rat terrier, Terry, is so unique, pet and owner understand each other.

She says, “I talk to her and she answers me. I have serious discussions with her and I’m convinced that on some level she really listens. She is selective about the questions she answers, though. For instance, she likes the question, ‘What shall we do next in the kitchen?’ Other questions she thinks are a waste of time.”

I think someone needs their meds.

Veteran actress Shirley MacLaine has called on the U.S. government to make its files on Unidentified Flying Objects (U.F.O.s) public. The Oscar winner was delighted when her close friend and Republican presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich revealed he believes in alien spacecraft in a recent interview.

And the 73-year-old hopes his confession will prompt lawmakers to follow the lead of other countries by opening up their U.F.O. files.

She says, “I thought that was terrific, that a presidential candidate admitted it (the presence of U.F.O.s). It’s time. Many countries have released their files – Argentina has, Brazil, France. Let’s do it.”
