Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick, have welcomed twins!

According to WTRF in Ohio, which first reported the story, the baby girls were born this morning. Broderick and Parker are at the East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry with the surrogate mother, the station reports.

Broderick, 47, and Parker, 44, announced they were expecting twins in April.

“Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are happily anticipating the birth of their twin daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate,” a rep for the couple told Us. “The entire family is overjoyed.”

In May, Broderick joked to David Letterman he was “nervous even thinking about” parenting twins.

“I’m ready. You know, I’ve asked people, ‘What’s it like to have twins?’ One father said, ‘I don’t recommend it,’” quipped Broderick — currently starring in The Philanthropist on Broadway. “But the rest have been very positive.”

A rep for Parker did not return phone calls. Hospital spokeswoman Maggie Espina would not confirm the news to Usmagazine.com.

The twin girls are the second and third children for the couple, who wed in 1997.

They are also parents to James Wilkie Broderick, 6.

Two police chiefs in the area where Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s surrogate lives are under investigation by authorities for allegedly concocting a plan to break into her home to get info for a tabloid.

That’s just disgusting! She’s pregnant, for Christ’s sakes!

Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Dept. Chief Chad DoJack allegedly were behind a plan to burglarize the surrogate’s home in Martins Ferry, Ohio and then sell info to a tabloid reporter — this according to WTRF TV.

We’re told investigators have seized several computers. As for the operating theory — investigators believe the culprits were trying to get photos from inside the house to show the living conditions.

It appears there really was a break-in a few weeks ago.

UPDATE: Police Chief Barry Carpenter told WTOV: “I’m 100% innocent in this and my department is as well.”

I can’t believe the lengths that some people will go to just to make a few bucks. It’s disgusting.

Sarah Jessica Parker says she’s concerned for the safety and well-being of the surrogate through whom she and husband Matthew Broderick are expecting twin daughters.

The Sex and the City star said the heightened media attention has led to an invasion of the woman’s privacy, Access Hollywood reports.

The surrogate’s telephone and computer have been hacked into, and she has received threats, Parker says, adding that the stress has taken its toll on her, and she worries about the surrogate “and the safe delivery of our children.”

“I care deeply about her, and I am incredibly outraged by the sort of extraordinary and unprecedented invasion of her privacy,” Parker says in the interview, which airs Tuesday. “I think even given the unfortunate way we live now … it has still shocked me, and it has still really disappointed me.”

Still, the star, 44, doesn’t regret using a surrogate.

“Well, you know, we’ve been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so,” she says. “This was one of the things we discussed with seriousness that had real possibilities for us.”

The actress — who has a son, James Wilkie, 6, with her husband — adds: “It would be a complicated — it would be odd to have made this choice if I was able to, you know, have successful pregnancies since my son’s birth.”

Sarah Jessica Parker has always wanted a daughter, her Sex and the City costar Mario Cantone tells PEOPLE. And in a few months, she will have not one – but two twin girls – via surrogate.

“I’m thrilled for her!” the comedian, 49, said at Thursday’s DKMS Americas Bone Marrow Registry’s Third Annual Linked Against Leukemia benefit, which he emceed at New York City’s Cipriani 42nd Street. “She has definitely wanted to have a girl.”

Perfect, considering Parker is “the ultimate girl,” he says. “I mean, she’s her. She’s going to have so much fun bringing the two girls up and teaching them to be young ladies.”

Cantone complimented Parker, 44, and her husband, Matthew Broderick, 47, on the great job they’ve done raising their son, James Wilkie, 6. “He’s witty. He’s funny and bright. The kid’s sharp! They are great parents.”

Cantone also says he’s happy that James Wilkie will soon have some little sisters to pal around with. “It’s good to have a combination of boys and girls.”
