Poster for Bruno!

Meet Brüno, the latest crazy creation of Sacha Baron Cohen, who puts his best cheeks forward in this poster for his new movie.

Playing a flamboyantly gay Austrian fashionista in a film so outrageous it was initially slapped with an NC-17 rating, Cohen takes on the world of haute couture in Brüno, his follow-up to Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. The mockumentary opens July 10.

Bruno trailer is here!

Has there been a force of nature that’s hit theaters in the way “Borat” did in the past three years? It was so unexpected. So unstoppable. So refreshing. Could Sacha Baron Cohen possibly have done it again? “Bruno” can’t possibly be what “Borat” was. After all, this time we know what to expect — anything and everything. Still, the first glimpse of “Bruno” is here and it’s hard to say it doesn’t deliver. What do you think?

PS: It’s a restricted trailer – so you’re going to have to put in your age or something like that.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s wedding put on hold

Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher

Comic actor Sacha Baron Cohen may not have much to laugh about these days.

The “Borat” star, 36, has stalled his marriage to Australian actress Isla Fisher due to religious issues, according to Britain’s Daily Mail.

Cohen has been waiting for his fiance Fisher, 32, to convert to Judaism, a process which is taking longer than expected. After the birth of their daughter Olive last year, Fisher was supposed to have devoted time to studying the Torah and being a mom. But things have reportedly gone much slower than planned, in part, due to Fisher’s career.

Cohen’s mother is allegedly at odds with the Aussie beauty since she quickly returned to work after Olive’s birth and spent most of the summer filming “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” A source close to the family described their relationship as tense.

On the other hand, the “Ali G” actor has avoided trouble at home by focusing his energy on his new reality-based movie, “Bruno.” The same source reported that Baron Cohen is not worried about the strained relationship between his bride-to-be and mother and is “happy taking his time to get married the same way he was happy having a long engagement.”

Despite the current trials, sources say Fisher is devoted to sticking things out with Cohen and his mother for the long run.

Fisher’s publicist would not say whether the couple has set a date.

Sacha Baron Cohen sparks riot over gay kiss

Sacha Baron Cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen has sparked outrage in Arkansas after hijacking a cage fighting contest with a display of gay kissing.

The Borat star infuriated fans at the Blue Collar Brawlin’ event when the participants stripped down to their underwear and kissed.

More than 1,600 spectators threw beer and chairs at the act.

It is believed the event was a stunt for Cohen’s new movie Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt.
Dwight Duncan, president of the Four States Fair Grounds which provided the venue said: “We had a contract for cage fighting. We were deceived.”

A spokesman for Cohen declined to say whether he was behind the prank.

The film has already sparked controversy – Cohen was criticized for setting up an Israeli analyst for an outrageous interview about conflicts in the Middle East.

Sacha Baron Cohen takes Bruno to Arkansas

Sacha Baron Cohen

The Smoking Gun website has posted copies of ads used to lure thousands of Arkansans to staged events in Texarkana and Fort Smith for Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest movie, Bruno, based on his TV character, a gay Austrian interviewer who specializes in entertainment and fashion topics.

The ads promised one-dollar beer, “hot chicks” and “hardcore fights.” As TSG reported, both events ended with two male wrestlers “tearing each other’s clothes off and, while in underwear, kissing down their opponent’s chest.”

The display, said TSG, “triggered Fort Smith fans to throw chairs and beer at the ring.” Cohen’s “Blue Collar Brawlin’” website, which promoted the events, shuttered after the filming. TSG discovered they they were registered to Peto Philer of Algeria.

Sacha Baron Cohen dupes former Mossad agent

Sacha Baron Cohen

Box office hit Borat appears not to have translated to the Middle East after Sacha Baron Cohen duped a former Mossad agent into giving an interview.

The Cambridge graduate was in the guise of his Austrian TV personality character, Bruno, and managed to convince Yossi Alpher, a former operative of the Israeli intelligence agency into being interviewed for a new spoof documentary.

Ghassam Khalib, a Palestinian academic, was also tricked into the interview, which could be seen in the final film after its May 2009 release.

In the interview, Bruno, a gay Austrian fashion show presenter, asked: “What’s the connection between a political movement and food? Why hummus?”

Alpher stepped in to explain: “Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist political movement. Hummus is a food.”

However, Baron Cohen’s character continued to discuss the chickpea-based dip, adding:: “Yesterday I threw away my pitta bread because it was dripping hummus. And it’s too high in carbohydrates.”

Bruno also told his guests: “Your conflict is not so bad”, and compared the political tension between Israel and Palestine to the alleged feud between Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.

“Why don’t you Jews and Arabs settle the conflict with a time-share on the land?” he added.

“When will you Jews return the pyramids? Why can’t Jews and Hindus get along?” Bruno continued.

Alpher told the Haaretz newspaper: “We knew something ludicrous was happening but couldn’t quite figure it out.

“Besides, we ourselves were not being ridiculed – only the conflict that occupies and preoccupies us.”
