Ryan O’Neal and his son were being booked on suspicion of narcotics possession this morning after a probation search at the actor’s Malibu home, authorities said.

Deputies found Redmond O’Neal, 24, in possession of methamphetamine while a vial of the drug was found in Ryan O’Neal’s bedroom, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore.

The father and son will be held in lieu of $10,000 bail, he said.

The O’Neals were detained shortly after 7:15 a.m. during a probation search related to a case involving Redmond O’Neal. The two were taken to the sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills station.

Redmond, whose mother is actress Farrah Fawcett, was arrested last year on charges related to carrying heroin and crystal meth while driving under the influence in Malibu.

He pleaded not guilty to drug possession and one misdemeanor DUI charge as part of a deal intended to help him avoid jail. He was sentenced to three years probation and $1,688 in fines for the DUI charge.

In another case from 2005, Redmond O’Neal was placed on probation stemming from an arrest on suspicion of methamphetamine and cocaine possession.

Ryan O’Neal, 67, was arrested last year on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after firing a gunshot during an argument with another son, Griffin O’Neal.

The actor told authorities that Griffin, 43, picked up a fireplace poker and started swinging it. Griffin grazed him four or five times and “aimed at my head, I ducked, he hit his own girlfriend in the head,” Ryan O’Neal said at the time.

The actor said he fired a warning shot intended to scare his son.

The elder O’Neal was nominated for an Oscar for the 1970 movie “Love Story.”

Between travel engagements to promote her new film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Scarlett Johansson is working on her own engagement — and wedding — to fiancé Ryan Reynolds.

Friends say the 23-year-old beauty, who was spotted back in February trying on Monique Lhuillier dresses in L.A. and paging through In Style Wedding and Brides Magazines on Aug.5 in Beverly Hills, will most likely want something simple.

“Scarlett’s not big on some over-the-top wedding with white doves and 300 guests,” a pal of the actress tells OK!. In fact, the friend says the actress and 31-year-old Reynolds are thinking of having a small civil ceremony with just the two of them and Scarlett’s twin brother Hunter as the witness.

Ever the fashionista however, one thing Scarlett won’t skimp on is a dress! The Senior editors at Brides Magazine recommend the Amsale one-shoulder wedding gown. “It’s modern and its understated line is perfect for her curves,” they tell OK!.

Although the actress told OK! she has no wedding date set, she joked “I’m very excited. Hopefully I’ll be able to get through [Canadian] immigration much faster now!”

As for how Ryan’s holding up, pals say, “He’s just so excited she said ‘Yes’ that he doesn’t care when or where they wed, as long as she says ‘I do.’”

Scarlett Johansson, who in May announced her engagement to Canadian-born actor Ryan Reynolds, says she’s eager to become an honorary Canadian – and hopefully pass through the border quickly from now on.

“I’m very excited,” the Vicky Cristina Barcelona star, 23, tells Entertainment Tonight Canada in an interview airing Tuesday. “I’ve had wonderful times in Canada. It’s a lovely country. It’s a beautiful country and hopefully I’ll be able to get through immigration faster now!”

When jokingly told by ET Canada’s Roz Weston that Reynolds, 31, is “a prince up there,” Johansson responded, “Wow. That’s fantastic. Do I get anything from it?”

Weston quipped that Johansson may receive a crown “made out of beaver” or “possible moose,” to which Johansson responded, “Okay, that’s creepy – an animal on my head. If it’s alive, maybe. Um, I guess so. I don’t know! I’ll take it!”

As for Johansson’s steamy kissing scenes with heartthrob Javier Bardem, 39, in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, she says, “It’s so not sexy … It’s just so not a big deal. I think also because half the crew is standing around eating sandwiches, it really takes the edge off. I’m like, ‘You guys really want to go to lunch, don’t you? Alright, just give me the tongue, give me the tongue. We’ll go to lunch after this. Come on Javier, give it to me.’ That’s how it goes.”

Ryan Reynolds told pals of his engagement to Scarlett Johansson by sending a text message.

Reynolds’ Definitely, Maybe co-star Elizabeth Banks says the couple wanted to send a message, rather than call their pals.

She tells Usmagazine.com, “I texted him to say, ‘Are you really engaged or is this a joke?’ And he said, ‘Yes, we’re really engaged!’”

Johansson and Reynolds have been dating since February 2007, shortly after Blade: Trinity star Reynolds broke off his engagement to singer Alanis Morissette.

They announced their engagement earlier this month.

Only hours after the news broke that Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson had gotten engaged, the Van Wilder star’s former fiancée Alanis Morissette was spotted on a flight from San Francisco to Los Angeles, where eyewitnesses tell OK! the Canadian singer appeared unfazed by the announcement.

“Alanis seemed fine,” one of the pop star’s fellow passengers tells OK!, adding that she “looked beautiful.”
