Kathy Griffin: Split-Screen Made Rosie Leave The View

rosiekathy.jpg

Comedian Kathy Griffin – who guest co-hosted The View one day after the big fight between Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck – revealed some details about O’Donnell’s departure from the show, during a comedy act Saturday night.

“I don’t even know where to start,” she told a sold-out crowd at the Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. “I tell you who I got a call from [on Friday]. ‘Hey Kath. It’s Ro. What are you doing? Wanna hang out?’ I spent the whole day with Rosie! How about that!?’”

So what did Rosie do on Friday? She lived by the lyrics of “Girls Just Wanna have Fun,” and took Griffin to watch pal Cyndi Lauper rehearse for her upcoming True Colors Tour. Later, the trio went out for dinner in Manhattan, “and the mojitos were flying,” said Griffin (who doesn’t drink, and stuck with Diet Pepsi). “It was fun.”

Griffin has guest-hosted on The View twice in the last two weeks, “so I was there before, and after the whole split-screen, Hannity and Colmes s—,” she said.

Revealing a conversation she had with O’Donnell about how the show’s producers split O’Donnell’s image with Hasselbeck’s during their fight, Griffin said: “And that’s what it was. I said, ‘What was really it?’ And she said, ‘The split-screen.’ She said, ‘I don’t want to do Hannity and Colmes. ‘ ”

Griffin also explained O’Donnell’s reaction to news that Donald Trump had called Hasselbeck “stupid” in TV interviews. “Awww. that’s sad,” was her reaction, according to Griffin, who added: “So, she doesn’t even hate Elisabeth.”

Griffin also praised O’Donnell, saying: “I think she’s a pistol, and she’s outspoken and fun and says outrageous things. That show’s not going to be the same without her, whether you like her or not.”

Finally she hinted that The View will have to find a replacement for O’Donnell, to which a number of audience members started chanting “Kathy!”

Griffin, whose name has been mentioned by many TV critics as a possible replacement, responded with a simple, “Thank you. We’ll see what happens.”

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Speaks Out About Rosie Fight

rosie_view.jpg

Elisabeth Hasselbeck wants fans to know that she and Rosie O’Donnell are still friends after their on-air fight on Wednesday’s View.

“I am fine,” Hasselbeck, 29, tells TV’s Extra. “We are used to debating things there. You have women who care a lot about things.”

Despite the harsh words exchanged, there’s no lingering resentment, she says: “The best thing about today is that there’s no slow boil, none. It’s there, it’s an issue, it’s dealt with and it’s over. If there are tensions, [and] obviously there was, it’s dealt with in the moment.”

Hasselbeck has always said she’s friends with O’Donnell when the cameras aren’t rolling, and she tells Extra that’s still true. “We’ve invested a lot into our friendship,” she says. “We also have a lot of passion. The best thing about us is that we are honest and deal with things up front.”

She says she’s optimistic that she and O’Donnell, who have often argued over politics and, in particular, the Iraq war, will be able to resolve their differences. “I honestly think, I believe that we are mature women who can resolve,” she says. “I hope we can. I would hope that a disagreement or a heated debate wouldn’t be the end of a relationship. … They take work. I’m hoping that can happen here too. I don’t think that is impossible at all.”

Asked what it will be like going to work on Thursday, Hasselbeck says, “It’ll be a little awkward, I’m sure. Whenever we have a heated debate, the next day is awkward. I bet we’ll talk about some fun things.”

Meanwhile, O’Donnell has also spoken out about the confrontation, in her own unique way. On her blog Wednesday afternoon, she wrote in her signature haiku style, under the headline “cease fire”:

a split screen
new heights
or lows
depending on who u ask

And perhaps Hasselbeck doesn’t have to worry about awkwardness at the office on Thursday. O’Donnell concludes: “tomorrow kelli turns 40/ i will not be at work.”

Rosie says she’s treated for depression

4uv47q.jpg

Rosie O’Donnell says she began being treated for depression after the Columbine school shootings and hangs upside down for up to a half-hour a day to improve her mental state.

When gunmen killed 13 people at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999, O’Donnell said she felt as if it had happened to her children.

“I couldn’t stop crying,” she said on an episode taped for ABC’s “The View” and due to air Friday. “I stayed in my room. The lights were off. I couldn’t get out of bed and that’s when I started taking medication.”

Anyone concerned about the stigma of taking medication for depression should know that “it saved my life,” she said.

When she began taking antidepressants, O’Donnell, 44, said she began yoga and “inversion therapy,” where she hangs upside down by a swing for 15 to 30 minutes a day. She demonstrates it on “The View.”

O’Donnell said she also has seasonal affective disorder, often called SAD, the wintertime blues that can strike when the days grow short. SAD is characterized by recurrent major depressive episodes during the fall and winter.

She’s “instantly happy” on sunny days but feels as if she’s being tortured when it’s cloudy. She feels the most important thing to do when you’re feeling depressed is to get up and move.

“Like in `The Wizard of Oz’ the color goes out,” she said. “That is what happens in depression. Everything gets gray.”

Friday’s episode of “The View” is devoted to women and depression. Actress
Linda Dano, who was diagnosed with clinical depression after her husband and mother died within 10 days of each other two years ago, is a guest.

Rosie slams Donald…again.

061221_rosie_odonnell.jpg

Ready for another round of Rosie-Donald? On the opening night of her R Family vacations cruise to the Caribbean, reports E! Online’s Marc Malkin, O’Donnell made the obligatory “You’re fired” joke during a musical number featuring a headshot of Trump.

But then, she sarcastically shot back at Trump’s assertion on Larry King’s show that he didn’t find her sexually alluring, saying, “It was always my dream to give a balding billionaire a boner.” (Yes, we said it was a family cruise.) And she promised even more Trump-bashing on her next HBO special — at least “25 minutes on Donald … I do like my start about balding-billionaire boner.”

And that’s not all! Rosie also took a little dig at her boss Barbara Walters, making fun of her for asking Eva Longoria about skinning cats when Eva had previously talked about skinning a deer: “Working with Barbara is like working with your nana.”

Rosie Blogs in response to the Donald

rosieodonnel.jpg

so what happens
when u say the emperor has no clothes
the comb over goes ballistic
via phone to mr king

choices
every minute
every day
everyone

i imagine it is interesting
as celeb feuds tend 2 b
so here r my thoughts

didnt watch
didnt u tube
restrict

i have no time 2 make art now
i am only off friday
which is never enuf
to detox

the pipes get full
bits of sludge
clog the flow

so tiny books
now
express in torn images
my inside

i was raised reading ms magazine
i remember the burning of bras
as women demanded equality
in unison

beauty pageants
where women were paraded around
judged valuable or not
by old white men

it is always old white men

they added a talent portion
and gave away college degrees
they evolved – beauty pageants
and eventually – nearly faded away
for good

remember the seventies
a young girl in nyc
meets a pimp
he cons her into a life of illusion
she works for him

no fun – no fucking – no future
she is owned
when she sneaks out -
to party the night away
he freaks

he roughs her up a bit
shames her in front of the others
teaches her to behave
for his own benefit

and just when we lost all hope
cagney and lacey showed up
they cuff the pimp
they free the girl

marybeth and christine
would never
be friends with a pimp

this is reality tv
like it or not
same same same
as vivi says

iawtc Rosie
