Guy Ritchie has admitted a character from his new film RocknRolla is based on Pete Doherty.

When a stolen painting falls into the hands of rock star Johnny Story, (Toby Kebbell), the shambolic musician – who is hiding out in a crack den, having been declared dead – finds himself caught in the middle of a battle between the Russian mob, the established London underworld and its rising tough guys.

And speaking to Empire magazine, Ritchie has revealed that former Libertine Doherty was the inspiration for Kebbell’s character.

“At the time I was writing it, Pete Doherty was everywhere,” he explained. “It’s either genius marketing or a happy – or unhappy – accident. It’s creative self-destruction in the sense that he’s doing it creatively.”

He continued: “I think what we all like is someone who fell and then stood up again. And that’s probably the story with Pete Doherty. There seems to be an implication that people want to see him jump. But at the same time there’s a desire to see the likes of him being reborn.”

RocknRolla - which Ritchie has described as looking at “old school gangsters getting pushed out by the new school” – is released on September 5th.

Pete Doherty has been ordered to pay more than $1,800 to a British paparazzo for smashing up her camera.

The Babyshambles frontman appeared at Yeovil Magistrates’ Court in Somerset, England on Thursday to answer a charge of criminal damage following the August 2007 run-in with Catherine Mead.

Magistrates heard how the 29-year-old singer lost his temper with the snapper after inviting her and her colleague to introduce themselves.

The incident, which saw Doherty grab Mead’s camera and break the lens, took place while the star was enjoying a family day out – just one day before he returned to rehab to fight his drug addictions.

He pleaded guilty to the charge, and magistrates ruled he must pay $1,836.54 to compensate Mead, as well as a further $200 in costs.

Doherty’s court appearance comes less than a week after Somerset officials issued a warrant for his arrest following two missed court dates in relation to the case. The warrant was withdrawn just hours after it was authorized.

The original line-up of troubled rocker Pete Doherty’s band Babyshambles will reform for an upcoming U.K. festival.

Doherty was scheduled to play a solo set at Moonfest in Wiltshire next month, but now he’ll be backed by his old groupmates.

Other acts on the bill include tribute band The Australian Pink Floyd and Brandon Block.

Pete Doherty has dismissed reports his home in the English countryside has been raided by thieves, insisting the claims are false.

The troubled star – himself a previously convicted burglar – was allegedly left devastated after his Wiltshire, England house was ransacked last weekend while Doherty was on tour in Madrid, Spain with his Babyshambles bandmates.

British tabloids reported that among the items stolen were a $2,000 guitar and three paintings Doherty had created with his own blood.

But the singer has blasted the allegations, branding the story “erroneously reported”.

Pete Doherty is reportedly back with ex-girlfriend Lisa Moorish – after the former couple was photographed spending time together at his English country home.

The Babyshambles frontman – who previously dated supermodel Kate Moss – has a four-year-old son, Astile, with Moorish, and is reportedly keen to reunite with his former lover.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Star, “Pete has been enjoying Lisa’s company again. Lisa is his rock. They have remained friends since their split in 2003 and she has been instrumental in encouraging Pete to get off the drugs and get clean. It would be no surprise if it emerged they had become more than friends again.”

An arrest warrant for troubled rocker Pete Doherty was withdrawn just hours after it was issued – in an ongoing row over missed court appearances.

The Babyshambles frontman was expected to appear in court in Somerset, England on Thursday to enter a plea after allegedly attacking a female press photographer last summer.

He was charged with criminal damage to Catherine Mead’s camera lens following the incident.

But after the star failed to show up – his second missed hearing in the case – magistrates in Yeovil, Somerset issued a warrant for his arrest without bail.

However, following intervention from Doherty’s lawyers the warrant was withdrawn just a few hours later.

A spokesman for the star says, “The matter has been resolved and the warrant has been withdrawn.”

The Babyshambles frontman was expected to enter a plea on Thursday after allegedly attacking a female press photographer last summer.

He was charged with criminal damage to Catherine Mead’s camera lens following the incident in Somerset, England.

After a second missed hearing, magistrates in Yeovil, Somerset issued a warrant for the arrest of Doherty without bail.

Chairman of the bench Mr Nick Bernard said: “I assume that this is the correct address we have for Mr Doherty. He should have, therefore, received the letters stating when he should attend court.”
