Well I love Penelope Cruz, but when I read the article below, I have to say I’m a bit bummed!

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz and French fashion designer Sonia Rykiel have signed a petition for the release of Roman Polanski that on Monday had grown to include 700 celebrities and film industry figures.

The petition was launched a week ago by the French performance and visual artists association, SACD, after the Polish-French director was detained in Switzerland to face possible extradition to the US to face child sex charges.

Adrien Brody, the US actor who starred in Polanski’s Oscar-winning The Pianist, Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal and his director compatriot Guillermo del Toro have also put their names to the list.

Polanski was detained in Switzerland after US authorities issued an arrest warrant in connection with the 1978 sex case involving the director and a 13-year-old girl.

Polanski, who pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor after striking a deal with prosecutors, fled the United States on the eve of his sentencing hearing.

The SACD petition does not comment directly on the crime for which Polanski was convicted, instead expressing outrage at his arrest at a film festival.

“It seems inadmissible… that an international cultural event, paying homage to one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers, is used by the police to apprehend him,” said the association on its website.

“Film-makers, actors, producers and technicians – everyone involved in international film-making – want him to know that he has their support and friendship,” it said. Source

I’m sorry, but the man RAPED a 13 year old girl! Drugged and raped her! Not only did he rape her, but he admitted to sodomizing her. Call me crazy, but there is no such thing as consensual sex at 13. Whether she wanted it or not – the fact remains that she’s legally too young to make such a decision. No matter how promiscuous the girl was at 13 – he was an adult man who preyed on a young girl.It is rape – plain and simple!!  To be honest it’s really bothering me that all of these celebrities are crying for his release. Why shouldn’t he be punished for this abhorrent crime!? Because he’s a celebrity? What kind of message does that send! Why do we have laws in place to protect young girls? For this very reason.

Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem are engaged, a source tells Usmagazine.com.

“They tried to keep it very private and quiet,” the source continues of the couple, who began dating in 2007. (They first met while filming flick Jamon, Jamon in 1992.)

A rep for Cruz, 35, had no comment.

A pal told the New York Daily News, which first reported the story, that Cruz wanted to wed Bardem, 40, to appease Cruz’s Catholic parents — given the persistent rumors that she’s pregnant, which she’s denied.

Cruz once said she wasn’t sure she wanted to be a wife.

“I don’t know if I believe in marriage,” she told Psychology Today in August. “I believe in family, love and children.”

She continued: “When I [have children], I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life.”

Penelope Cruz would like to set the record straight about the bun-in-the-oven rumor.

Penelope Cruz, 35, has been dating boyfriend Javier Bardem for the last two years, and somewhere somehow the rumor got started that she is pregnant. I’m not gonna lie, I questioned it myself!

But last night, while she was promoting her new film, Broken Embraces at the Toronto International Film Festival, she set the record straight.

“I start getting some presents from friends saying, ‘Congratulations, you’re pregnant.’ And I say, ‘No, I’m not, so return the presents,’” she told USA Today. “It’s amazing.”

So for now – there’s no baby.  But here’s to hoping! They’d make some beautiful babies!!

Rumors have been swirling around for months now that Penelope Cruz is pregnant with boyfriend Javier Bardem’s baby.  Well, she showed up yesterday on set of a new mystery film in Los Angeles – not helping the rumor’s one bit.  She was definitely fussing with her coat several times during filming, which seems to prove she’s trying to hide something.

Penelope and longtime boyfriend Javier have been dating  since 2007.  They have appeared in three movies together; Jamon, Jamon, Live Flesh, and recently Vicky Cristina Barcelona (loved it!).

Penelope Cruz is reportedly four months pregnant, said media reports on Thursday.

Cruz is said to be expecting her first child with long-term boyfriend Javier Bardem, according to website Just Jared.

‘Penelope is about four months pregnant. She’s really healthy now and will be a great mother,’ a source told the site.

According to entertainment websites, Cruz, 35, who is currently on a promotional tour for her new movie Broken Embraces, wore a red Bottega Veneta trouser suit, which was sourced for her at the last minute when she attended the UK premiere in London.

At the time it was reported her luggage went missing on the flight to the UK capital from Madrid, but speculation is now rife she wore the high-waisted outfit to disguise her fledgling baby bump, reported news.com.au.

At the German premiere in Berlin on Monday, Cruz donned a one-shoulder, floor-length gown which could disguise any signs of the pregnancy.

Penélope Cruz has kicked the habit.

“She gave up smoking about five months ago, cold turkey,” an insider close to the actress tells Life & Style. “She just decided one day she wasn’t going to smoke, and just like that, she stopped.”

And it could have been just in time: Penélope was showing a bump when she and boyfriend Javier Bardem, 40, attended a U2 concert in Paris on July 12. “She’s definitely looking heavier,” says an eyewitness. “Her boobs are bigger, and her stomach is hanging over her jeans. It could be pregnancy weight.”

Another possible sign? The Vicky Cristina Barcelona star bowed out of hosting an event at the Cannes Film Festival in May because she was sick (morning sickness perhaps?).

But don’t expect to hear wedding bells any time soon. “Penélope has this idea that marriage makes things complicated,” says the insider. “She just loves being with [Javier] and believes that’s enough.”
