Mark Ronson: “I’m a fraud”

Mark Ronson

Mark Ronson fears he will be labelled “talentless” every time he starts work on a new project - despite winning international critical acclaim and three Grammy awards.

The 32-year-old landed the coveted Producer of the Year prize at this year’s Grammys as well as two other gongs for his work on Amy Winehouse’s hit 2006 album Back To Black.

But Ronson admits that despite all his success, he still gets nervous when he works with someone new - fearing he will be exposed as a phony.

He says, “Still before every new job I’m racked with a massive insecurity: ‘OK, this’ll be the one that exposes me as a fraud and a talentless f**k!’”

Mark Ronson lashes out at music magazine

Mark Ronson

Mark Ronson has hit out at British music magazine NME in a row over his recent Glastonbury performance - labelling the people who work there “morons”.

Ronson was infuriated after he received an email from a reporter at the publication denying responsibility for a scathing review of his set at the legendary English festival on June 29th.

And the music-maker, who was only alerted to the negative article by the message, is shocked at the magazine’s attitude.
He has posted the reporter’s email on his website and is now vowing to sell his recent NME award on the internet.

He writes on his Myspace.com blog, “I got the following email from a journalist at the NME in reference to what I imagine was a scathing review of my Glasto performance (if only I read the mag, I might know what it said….oh well). My NME award for 2008’s best international solo artist will be on eBay as soon as the morons send it to me. I doubt the bidding will go that high and it makes an excellent doorstop.”

Mark Ronson to be prosecuted for onstage cigarette?

Mark Ronson

Mark Ronson is facing prosecution after he was caught smoking onstage at a gig last weekend.

The Grammy-winner was performing at Britain’s Wakestock Festival in the grounds of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England on Saturday night but he broke the U.K.’s strict no smoking laws by sparking a cigarette up during the concert.

And now West Oxfordshire District have confirmed they have launched an investigation into the allegations and will be examining photo evidence of the gig.

A council spokeswoman tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, “Our environmental health department will be investigating it and meeting with organisers and reviewing what went on. We can’t say now whether we’re prosecuting him (Ronson) or not.”

If he is prosecuted over the offence, Ronson will receive a minor $100 penalty but the event’s organiser will be fined $5,000.

Mark Ronson: “Performing will help Winehouse recover”

Mark Ronson

Producer Mark Ronson is convinced Amy Winehouse will soon be back to full health - because performing is speeding her recovery.

The troubled singer has suffered a string of health problems this year, including a stint in rehab, a bout of infectious skin condition impetigo and most recently being diagnosed with traces of deadly lung disease emphysema.

But the Back To Black hitmaker emerged from hospital at the weekend to play at Nelson Mandela’s birthday celebrations in London and at U.K. music festival Glastonbury. Winehouse has since been released from the London clinic where she was being treated, with her representative confirming the star intends to perform at several more events throughout the summer.

And Ronson insists that his close friend is gaining strength from her live shows.

He says, “I’ve been to see Amy a few times in hospital and she seems to be picking up. Performing is the best medicine for her.”

Mark Ronson rejected a collaboration with David Hasselhoff

Mark Ronson

Mark Ronson was shocked when David Hasselhoff complimented him on his musical talents and asked to work with him - but was forced to turn down the singer/actor because he was too busy.

The superproducer was left stunned when the former Baywatch star asked him to collaborate on a song when the two met at California’s recent Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

But Ronson, who has worked with stars including Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse, had no choice but to refuse Hasselhoff’s request.

He says, “He came up and was like, ‘Hey, I really love your stuff,’ and I was just taken aback. He stayed and watched our show and said that he’s got some new TV show and wanted me to produce a song with him. But I’m a bit busy right now!”

Mark Ronson: Michael Jackson hated watching porn

Mark Ronson

Producer Mark Ronson once tried to make his childhood pal Michael Jackson watch porn - but the pop superstar hated the experience and wasn’t amused.

Ronson, whose father Laurence was a band manager, used to spend his time in the company of John Lennon’s son Sean and Jackson as they were growing up.

The trio would frequently have sleepovers - but when Ronson and Lennon used to switch over the TV to the pornography channel, Jackson was left cringing with embarrassment.

He recalls, “It’s a weird story, but I didn’t touch him. We (Ronson and Lennon) used to watch the porn channel because we were like 10 and, ‘Oh my God, tits!’ So Michael was in bed. And me and Sean said, ‘Michael do you want to see something cool?”

“We turned the dial to the porn channel and there were strippers shaking their tits around. We were like, ‘Michael, Michael, how cool is this?’ We turned around and he was cringing, saying, ‘Ooh stop it, stop it, ooh it’s so silly.’ We were like, ‘Michael, you have to look, maybe you’re not seeing it right, it’s naked girls!’

“He was not down with the program whatsoever! I think he had really strong feminist views on porn.”

Ronson’s comments were made during the taping of British gameshow the Sunday Night Project, which is due to air in the U.K. on Sunday.
