Kristen Stewart shares a whole new side of herself in the indie flick Welcome to the Rileys: her backside.
The Twilight Saga star, 19, plays a 16 year-old runaway stripper and occasional prostitute in the movie, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Saturday. In her first scene, she dances on a stripper pole wearing platforms, fishnets, a micro-mini skirt and a bra, and eventually offers a lapdance to costar James Gandolfini. In several later scenes, audiences catch a glimpse of Stewart’s bare rear end. Her raunchy character swears like a sailor and stashes cash in her underpants.
On the red carpet Saturday, Stewart admitted to reporters that she was a bit freaked out “the first time I put on all the fishnets…I really tried to own it though.” She shot the indie weeks before Twilight’s blockbuster release in fall 2008. “I was able to walk around the streets,” she explained. “I was literally walking down the street in cut-off shorts and a robe that was cinched. I looked like a crackhead!”
“My character’s not sultry, not sexy,” Stewart clarified. “She sort of throws herself into all her moves. I tore myself up doing it.”
And her first time up on the stripper pole — she trained with a stripper for two weeks — was a little traumatic. “I wanted to do it in my clothes,” she explained on the red carpet. Her stripper trainer ‘was like, ‘No, you don’t stick to the poll when you do that.’”

Anyone who’s read the second novel in Stephanie Meyer’s wildly popular “Twilight” saga knows it is the most emotionally wrought book in the series (thanks, Edward). So it’s no surprise “New Moon” leading lady Kristen Stewart got a little worked up filming the sequel, famously telling Entertainment Weekly that she sat in her car sobbing before her breakup scene with Robert Pattinson. When we caught up with Kristen recently at a Beverly Hills press junket, she dished even more about her weighty role, including why it was so much harder than “Twilight.”
‘New Moon’ was more labor-intensive,” she admitted. “Because everything that we established in the first movie, we basically come in and say that [Bella] was just wrong. And so, that’s how I start off the movie. As ‘New Moon’ begins, she knows that she’s going to get broken up with, so it’s this natural progression of seeing a girl who you saw being so confident in herself to something so daring and new to her.”
Combining heart-wrenching scenes with a scattered shooting schedule left Kristen with a case of, well, whiplash. “It was hard to do, because I had to go back and forth from being pulled out of that deep depression,” Kristen said. “Within a day, I’d have to go back and forth from doing a scene with and without Jacob. So I would have to be dead, zombie Bella who’s just absolutely destroyed, to waking up again.”

MTV delves deep into the “Twilight” universe with two can’t-miss specials: “Love Bites” chronicles the budding rumored romance between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart on Monday at 10 p.m. ET/PT, while “New Moon Revealed” will feature die-hard fans as they gather to meet the saga’s stars Monday at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.
