Kevin Federline took the kids from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to his Tarzana home on Friday morning, after his ex Britney Spears was hospitalized overnight.
Custody of their children, Preston and Jayden, was transferred over to Federline when Spears, 26, was taken out of her home on a gurney and rushed by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai. Police said she was “under the influence of an unknown substance.”

Sources close to the Spears and Federline families reveal exclusively to OK! that Kevin, who was married to Jamie Lynn’s sister Britney and is currently embroiled in a nasty custody battle with the troubled pop star, has reached out to his former sister-in-law and her mother Lynne as they face the ordeal of being in the scandal spotlight.
“Kevin has long thought of Jamie Lynn as a little sister,” a Federline family member shares with OK!. The wannabe rapper spoke with Lynne before the baby news dropped and, according to the source, “he was heartbroken because he was concerned about what it would mean for Jamie Lynn’s future.” But now that the dust has begun to settle, “he just wants to be part of the support system.”

On Sunday, the duo partied together for the second night running.
Both were in town to host separate New Year’s Eve parties – hers at LAX, his at Tangerine – but each name attraction started celebrating early, hitting LAX on Saturday and Pure Nightclub on Sunday.
A source close to Federline told PEOPLE that the two hung out in Hilton’s room Saturday after leaving the club.
Still, they seemed less chummy on Sunday at Pure, mingling only briefly before drinking a shot of tequila together.
Lynne Spears told Kevin Federline that Jamie Lynn was pregnant before she broke the news to her daughter, Britney, Usmagazine.com has learned.
But that doesn’t come as a surprise to those in the Spears camp.
“Lynne talks with him way more than she talks to Britney,” a source tells Us.
“Lynne mentioned it to warn him that the media would be going crazy,” another source adds. “But she asked him as a favor not to say anything to anyone. She wanted him to be prepared.”
Lynne famously sold the story to OK! magazine, upsetting her ex-husband (and Jamie Lynn and Brit’s father) Jamie.
Britney Spears is on the attack!
Kevin Federline has long complained that ex Britney Spears has their kids hooked on sugar and fast food. But now Britney’s accusing Kevin of exposing their children to something far more dangerous: marijuana.
“Britney believes Kevin’s been smoking pot in front of the kids,” says a friend of hers. “She says she can smell it in the boys’ hair and on their clothes when she has her visitation with them.”
Britney’s so upset, she’s determined to have Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, drug-tested to confirm her suspicions. “She’s asked the court-appointed monitor and her lawyers if they can prove the kids have been exposed to environments in which drugs have been taken,” an insider says. They told her she should snip off a few strands of their hair right after they’ve returned from Kevin’s place and have them analyzed in a lab.
Indeed, “testing for secondhand marijuana use can be done using a lock of hair,” confirms addiction expert Marty Brenner. “The test must be done within a day or two after exposure. Secondhand smoke would definitely show up, and results usually come back in a couple of days.”
Since Brit, 26, submits to regular court-ordered drug tests herself, her legal team intends to call an emergency hearing if Sean and Jayden test positive for pot. “Kevin could lose custody,” says the insider.
