Kesha Got A Standing Ovation For Her Billboard Music Awards Performance

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 10.26.38 PM

Kesha brought down the HOUSE!

After lots of controversy whether she was going to perform or not, Kesha got her wish and killed it at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. In fact, her performance of Bob Dylan‘s “It Ain’t Me Babe” (with Ben Folds) brought down the house.

In what was originally set up to be a statement towards her legal situation, Kesha surprised people by kinda going a different, more zen approach to her performance. She made no mention of Dr. Luke or really any direct correlation to her situation while she performed…instead opting for a subtle, emotional approach that was pretty awesome, in my opinion.

Check out a recap BELOW ant tell us what you think!

Kesha Denied Contractual Termination By NYC Judge

Kesha Makes An Appearance At New York State Supreme Court

Ugh…sorry Kesha.

The singer just lost her war against Sony as a New York state judge has rejected her claim that she was a slave to Dr. Luke under their label. Now, this is a big loss for Kesha but also might set a musical precedent for other (unfortunate, obviously) allegations of abuse. TMZ reports:

Kesha tried to get an emergency order giving her the right to get out of her Sony deal, on grounds Dr. Luke allegedly raped her and Sony was tormenting her by holding her to the deal.

Kesha lost that bid but pressed on to have her day in court, but Sony aggressively moved to get the entire case thrown out. The judge has now squarely sided with Sony, rejecting all of Kesha’s claims.

The judge didn’t buy Kesha’s “slavery” argument because Sony wasn’t pushing for her to work only with Dr. Luke … they would have made other producers available. By rejecting that offer, the judge felt Kesha was unreasonable.

Kesha had also argued she was the victim of a hate crime, claiming Dr. Luke’s alleged abuse was covered under that law. The judge said, “Although [Luke’s] alleged actions were directed to Kesha, who is female, [her claims] do no allege that [Luke] harbored animus toward women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha.”

The judge ended with this … “Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime.”

Kesha does have a similar lawsuit she filed against Luke in L.A., but that kinda took the back seat to this. Now, I don’t think the court is being unreasonable, but I do think they don’t fully understand the nature of abuse and the abuser.

What do YOU think about this ruling?

Kesha Speaks!

Screen Shot 2016-02-24 at 11.08.24 PM

Kesha finally addresses the public about her struggle in not one, but two avenues of social media…

Her first message came with this picture (above) on instagram, and said,”I am beyond words in gratitude. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. A million times over and forever thank you. The support I have recieved has left my face swollen from tears. I love you all so much. A statement too large for this format is coming…

And then yesterday afternoon, she posted on Facebook:

I’m so, so beyond humbled and thankful for all of the support I’vereceived from everyone. Words cannot really express the emotions I’ve gone through reading and seeing how amazing everyone has been to me. I can’t believe that so many people all over the world took the time to show me support and love. Other entertainers who knowingly put their own careers at stake by supporting me, I will be forever grateful.

All I ever wanted was to be able to make music without being afraid, scared, or abused. This case has never been about a renegotiation of my record contract – it was never about getting a bigger, or a better deal. This is about being free from my abuser. I would be willing to work with Sony if they do the right thing and break all ties that bind me to my abuser.

But at this point, this issue is bigger than just about me.

I think about young girls today – I don’t want my future daughter – or your daughter – or any person to be afraid that they will be punished if they speak out about being abused, especially if their abuser is in a position of power.

Unfortunately I don’t think that my case is giving people who have been abused confidence that they can speak out, and that’s a problem.

But I just want to say that if you have been abused, please don’t be afraid to speak out. There are places that will make you feel safe. There are people who will help you. I for one, will stand beside you and behind you. I know now how this all feels and will forever fight for you the way perfect strangers have been fighting for me.

Yes, I am very much a feminist, but more than that, I am a humanist. I believe in supporting my fellow human beings in being SAFE.

We’re all in this together. You are not alone.

I love you and thank you.

I think this message was super sweet and very real. She sounds thoughtful and incredibly grateful and is committed to inspiring others to speak up.

What do YOU think of her public messages?

Kesha’s Case Against Dr. Luke Is Getting COMPLICATED.

Screen Shot 2016-02-23 at 9.40.53 AM

Poor Kesha.

Something else has surfaced in the continuing patriarchal horror show that is the Dr. Luke/Kesha case….TMZ has obtained portions of a Kesha deposition taken in 2011, and she denies under oath that she was drugged and raped.

The background is: Kesha and Luke had both been sued by a manager, and she was asked under oath about comments her mom allegedly made against Luke. She seems very relaxed in the video, and flatly denying what she is now fighting the repercussions of.

The video surfaced via a Luke source who is using it against her in this case. It also includes some footage of Kesha’s mom, who denies being told about any gross conduct between Dr. Luke and her kid.

Now, obviously this doesn’t take into account all the pressure Kesha must have been under, and how five years later she’s probably had some clarity and more strength around the situation. MANY people deny abuse for one reason or another, but hardly anyone makes up abuse claims. Kesha is trying to get out of her contract with Sony, and I think they should let her out.

What do YOU think about this traumatic case?
