Julia Stiles has split from her artist boyfriend Jonathan Kramer.

The pair, who dated for more than two years, are citing “irreconcilable differences” for the break-up.

And the actress doesn’t seem to be dealing with it too well, after she reportedly lashed out at fans in New York who she thought were taking snaps of her.

According to New York gossip column PageSix, Stiles mistakenly assumed a group of diners were taking photographs of her, and stormed out, saying, “Bye, guys - glad you got your picture!”

However, Stiles’ representative denies the actress was aggressive: “Julia was trying to get out of the way of the picture. She wasn’t being sarcastic.”

Julia Stiles has hit out at the tabloid media for rewarding the bad behavior of stars such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.

The star claims extensive press coverage of the antics of Hollywood’s party-loving elite only encourages young celebrities to misbehave.

She says, “I think a lot of it has to do with being very young and having a lot of opportunity and money. As for the attention, I feel we reward bad behavior. They get a lot of attention for misbehaving, and it reinforces the idea this is who they’re supposed to be.

“It may also be about them being young, experimenting and partying. They just get more attention than the average kid who does that. And they’re surrounded by people who won’t stop them, because they’re making so much money for everybody.”

Actress Julia Stiles was inspired to write and direct her new short movie Raving after being accosted by a tearful stranger on the streets of her native New York.

Stiles’ film is being screened at the city’s TriBeCa Film Festival, which began earlier this week. She says, “I was walking down the street, and this girl randomly stopped me and was hysterically crying. She asked me for money, saying she just needed to get home.” I started thinking about that - what would it take to ask a stranger for money, especially if it was a lie? And I just started writing.”

The Bourne Identity star Stiles has grown to accept being stopped by strangers. She adds, “Having grown up in New York, you naturally don’t trust strangers. There’s a wall. “When you have to be more open to communicating with strangers, it’s funny. When people are hollering at you, for instance, normally I’d never turn around. “But I have to assume it’s non-threatening if someone recognises me.”
