Josh Brolin on bar fight arres: ‘I did nothing wrong’

Josh Brolin

The news in July out of Louisiana, where Josh Brolin was playing President George W. Bush for filmmaker Oliver Stone’s sure-to-be controversial biopic W, was stunning: Brolin, W costar Jeffrey Wright and five others were arrested in connection with a bar fight.

Now, with the machinery gearing up to promote the movie about the 43rd and current chief executive – W is set to open Oct. 17, in anticipation of the Nov. 4 national election – Brolin, who has yet to explain what happened, continues to shed little light on that night in Shreveport.

“Let me put it this way,” a poker-faced Brolin, 40, tells the fashion magazine W for its October issue, on sale next Tuesday. “It was nice to be in jail knowing that I hadn’t done anything wrong. And it was maddening to be in jail knowing that I hadn’t done anything wrong.”

With his arraignment set for Dec. 2, Brolin apparently is not at liberty to discuss what took place. As was reported at the time, Brolin was booked and posted $334 cash bond.

W, which visited him two weeks following the arrest, quotes him as saying he “badly” wishes to present his side of the story. And it was Brolin who first brought up the topic of his arrest during the interview.

But then he said he could not discuss it.

On the subject of his movie, Brolin – who also starred in this year’s big Oscar winner, the Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men – says W offers “the most compelling story, because you see this guy trying to find his niche. You see him fail and you see him succeed. Like it or not, good or bad. It’s perfect drama.”

Jack Black challenges Josh Brolin to ‘pony’ up for cancer

Jack Black

Jack Black took celebrities taking donation calls at Friday night’s Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon in America to task – by demanding they phone each other with pledges.

The Tropic Thunder star admitted he has watched celebrity telethons as a cynic in the past – and he wanted to make sure this TV special would be a big winner.

He said, “You know that if one of those lucky so-and-so’s donated two percent of what they made, we could all go back to (TV show) Project Runway.”

He then tackled actor Josh Brolin, who was in the middle of a pledge call and ordered him to put the phone down, yelling, “Hang up the freaking phone!” Black then told Brolin to call comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, who was seated a few desks away from the movie star on the Kodak Theater stage, adding, “Make a pledge. What did you make on the Coen Brothers (film – No Country For Old Men)?”

Black then turned to the cameras and assured the viewers watching the show, “I’m gonna make these gravy trainers pony up.”
