John Mayer slams perfume selling celebrities

FP_IMAGE_3994457/FP_SET_3994385

John Mayer has taken aim at the crop of celebrities who make money by bottling their own brand of perfume.

The guitarist admits he is trying to come up with ways to expand his career, including plans for a new variety series, John Mayer Has a TV Show, and by taking a side job writing posts for the website Gawker.com.

But he insists he would never try to turn a profit by selling fans his own fragrance.

He says, “I’ve always just been stupidly curious about stuff; I’m not diversifying in terms of selling anything. I’m not selling ‘John Mayer: the cologne’. If I did it would just smell like sausage and sleep. I don’t look at my fans and think, ‘Wow, they really like what I do musically. Imagine if I could get 60 more dollars out of them!’ Who out there really goes, ‘You know what, I just f**king love perfumes. I always have since I was a kid. If I weren’t a pop singer, I’d be a perfumier…’ (sic)? At some point I may turn into an a**hole, but right now I just peddle a CD for 15 dollars every two years.”

Taylor Swift and John Mayer Collaborate over Dinner

taylor-swift-john-mayer-dinner

It’s not all work for John Mayer, who is in Nashville and slated to film an upcoming episode of CMT’s Crossroads with Keith Urban Tuesday.

On Sunday, the rocker stepped out to dinner with Nashville resident – and good friend – Taylor Swift, at hot spot Cabana. The two, who recently recorded “Half of My Heart” for Mayer’s latest album Battle Studies, were joined by a group of about 15 friends and sat next to each other throughout the meal. But the gathering was friendly – and not romantic. “It looked like a big group of Nashville friends,” a source says of the group.

“They were so nice,” the source says of the two singers, who enjoyed their meal at a quiet table away from other diners but were also chatty with restaurant and bar staff.

And Swift is one dedicated diner. According to the source, this was her second visit to Cabana in one week. She stopped in on Jan. 19 with a smaller group of friends and ordered the Blanco pizza with provolone cheese and roasted garlic.

John Mayer: “I’m the A–hole” for Breaking Up With Jennifer Aniston

John Mayer isn’t proud of the way things ended with Jennifer Aniston.

“I’ve never really gotten over it,” he tells the latest issue of Rolling Stone. “It was one of the worst times of my life.”

The singer, 32, first got cozy with the actress, 40, in April 2008 after spending five sexy days together in Miami, but went on to split twice — most recently last January, in which he held an impromptu press conference with paparazzi outside his NYC gym to, as he hints, take the blame for the breakup with America’s sweetheart.

“I’m the asshole,” he says. “I burned the American flag. I basically murdered an ideal.”

Instead of moving on, Mayer — who also famously romanced the perpetually single Jessica Simpson — says he’s stuck on the ones he’s already dated.

“All I want to do now is f— the girls I’ve already f—ed, because I can’t fathom explaining myself to somebody who can’t believe I’d be interested in them,” he says about his frustration with dating non-celebrities. “I’m too freaked out to meet anybody else.”

In fact, when he is meeting new people, his old flames pop into his head.

“I met a girl one time in Vegas. Her name was Dimples, and the ‘s’ in Dimples was adollar sign,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I have this weird feeling, a pride thing, for the people I’ve had relationships with. I still feel like I’m with them, in the sense that if I f—ed Dimples, what does that say about someone like Jen? I feel like it’s all connected. How could I ever cosmically relate these two people?”

He adds: “What would I be saying to Jen, who I think is f—ing fantastic, if I said to her, ‘I don’t dislike you. In fact, I like you extremely well. But I have to back out of this because it doesn’t arc over the horizon. This is not where I see myself for the rest of my life, this is not my ideal destiny,’ and then I see myself f***ing Dimples? What does that say for my case?”

John Mayer, the Good Samaratin

It was a typical NYC night out for John Mayer and his pals on Dec. 1. But between hitting hot spots the Slipper Room and the Darkroom, John managed to help out a new friend. “A homeless man came up to them asking for a quarter,” an eyewitness tells Life & Style. “John offered to buy him food instead.” The man asked if John would take him to lower Manhattan’s famed Katz’s Delicatessen for a roast beef sandwich. “I’ll buy you two, let’s go!” John said. The man told John not to bother, but the compassionate singer, 32, wouldn’t take no for an answer. “Maybe a pizza?” the man suggested. The pair then went to Rosario’s Pizza. “John waited in line with him,” says the witness, “sipped a bottle of water and bought the man a pizza!”

John Mayer looking hot in Details Magazine

1209 DE noupc

On creating pop music:

“I don’t know if you know, but I’m not exactly Bob Dylan – I’m already a pop musician…I want to reach as many people as possible…I don’t mind compromising.”

On people hating him:

“What if I had a booth on the street and I said, ‘Attention everybody who hates me: If you have a problem with me, I’m ready to hear your gripes! I will be outside the Barneys store on 60th Street from two to four this afternoon…I will only be speaking to people who not like me. Come out and let me have it.’ How many people do you think would be standing there?…Ze-ro.”

During the interview (in its December issue) conducted at L.A.’s star hangout Chateau Marmont, Mayer, 32, encounters Butler at a nearby table and strikes up a private 20 minute conversation. Gerard Butler had been briefly linked to Mayer’s ex-girlfriends Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson.

When the Details writer asks about the chat, Mayer says, “We talked about New York . . .We’re in a bit of the same position of being branded womanizers.”

Mayer then opens up a tad about the famous women he’s dated, suggesting that the heart wants what it wants:

“You just never know who’s going to come into your life,” he says. “To my mind, the only thing sicker than saying, ‘Wow, you’re a famous person and it would do a lot for my career to go out with you,’ is to say, ‘Wow, you’re a famous person and I like you and all, but I can’t do that to my career.’ I don’t think either of those is a good option.”

The profile also details the musician’s myriad collections: watches, guitars, cars, Leica cameras, even women’s leather bags. Explains Mayer: “I have the obsessiveness of someone who’s a sober, recovering addict displacing his addiction . . . Except I never had the addiction.” He adds self-consciously: “I’ve never done anything because I thought it would look cool.”

John Mayer: “I Should Be Having Sex With More Girls”

91013X3_MAYER_B-GR_02

Despite his notorious playboy image, John Mayer – who has romanced everyone from Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jessica Simpson — insists he doesn’t go after that many women because of the scrutiny on his love life.

“It’s crazy to me that in my head, that being 32 and dating women is going to get me in trouble,” he says in a new interview with The New York Times.. “I can’t even explain to you how terrible that feels, that I equate dating a woman with punishment, shame, guilt, disappointment, reproach, reprimand, persecution. It’s a nightmare.”

“I should be having sex with more girls,” he adds.

Read ICYDK’s review of John’s latest album, Battle Studies.

Don’t expect him to sing about his past few flings on his latest album, Battle Studies, either.

Check out what John Mayer used to look like

“What is the odd man out,” he says, “is it the record or the coverage? I’m not going to let it be the record. I think if you’re listening to Battle Studies and you think it’s a record about high-profile relationships, I haven’t done a good enough job.”
