On Monday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, John Mayer talks about girlfriend Jennifer Aniston’s new high-tech house — and admits he occasionally sleeps over.

“There is no normal thing in the Aniston house,” he says. “You won’t find a light switch. The light switch is not antiquated.

“There is a six-button light panel. It does everything,” Mayer goes on. “The top button is on and the button right below that one seems to be an air horn, so in the middle of the night, it [can be] very difficult [to sleep].”

Aniston gets confused by her high-tech home, too.

Says Mayer, “The other day, I’m like, ‘This is the most beautiful kitchen of all time. Where is the trash?’” Aniston, he adds, “didn’t know where the trash was.”

DeGeneres then puts Mayer on the hot seat, asking him if he sleeps over.

“Yeah, there are sleepovers, yeah,” he says. “Yes, yes, there are.”

Mayer also opens up about that infamous photo of him wearing a Borat-esque, one-piece bathing suit on his cruise.

“It is not photo-shopped,” he says of the photo. “I sort of get drawn into the vortex when I look at it for too long.

“I have this cruise … and the thing about a cruise is, everybody is supposed to let their hair down a little bit,” he goes on. “I let a lot of hair down, but the fact is, that is something you’re supposed to do for your fans. It’s just plain silly.”

Meanwhile, Aniston was on the DeGeneres’ show Friday and admitted she isn’t nervous about turning 40 on Feb. 11.

“I have to say, really, I feel better than I ever felt in my life,” she said. “I did have a moment, though, over the weekend… I found a really long gray hair, and it kind of flipped me out.

“It’s not my first, but it’s the fact that it was so long,” she said. “I was like … ‘How many others are there and what does that mean?’ It actually brought me to tears, slightly.

DeGeneres then asked who will be going to Aniston’s birthday party Saturday. Aniston said definitely her BFF Courteney Cox.

When DeGeneres held up a photo of Mayer (in a one-piece bathing suit), Aniston said, “I got to tell you, honestly, I almost don’t want to touch it.”

DeGeneres then commented on Mayer’s swimsuit, and Aniston said, “The man’s got balls – what can I say?

“I think he’s funny,” she said, before adding, “let’s put [the photo] down now.”

At Wednesday’s TCA conference in Los Angeles, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler announced that the network is “pretty close to closing our deal” with the singer.

“It’ll be a music variety sketch show,” Tassler said. “It’s being developed now.”

Pressed for specifics, Tassler added, “We’re looking at a couple of things.

“One is it’s sort of a pilot. It could be for a series of specials,” she said. “It could be just for a series. We’re just going to shoot the pilot now and see what we have and make a decision after that.”

The announcement comes months after web rumors began that Mayer has signed on to host a weekly variety show for CBS.

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer showed off a rare public display of affection, strolling arm-in-arm in New York City Thursday night.

Aniston, 39, smiled as she snuggled up to Mayer, 31, as he greeted photographers. The two — who wore matching black jackets and jeans — then dashed into La Esquina, where Kelly Ripa was also dining with husband Mark Consuelos.

While walking, he plugged her new movie Marley & Me.

“I’m happy to report the movie is completely in focus,” he told photographers as Aniston laughed. “I want everyone to know that.”

Then he joked that he and Aniston were walking all the way to Harlem.

“90 more blocks, guys!” he teased photographers. “90 more blocks!”

On Wednesday, Aniston told David Letterman that she met Mayer at a Hollywood party thrown by CAA agent Bryan Lourd.

“He was lovely on your show,” she also said of Mayer’s Thanksgiving performance, calling it “beautiful. It really kicked off the holiday sprit.”

In January’s GQ, Aniston said she and Mayer “care deeply for each other, and we’re just trying to figure it out.”

Aniston also said in December’s Vogue that people need to “mind their own business” when it comes to their relationship.

“Did you ever think Claudia Schiffer and David Copperfield made sense?” she said. “Love just shows up.”

John Mayer was having a good time on the red carpet at Alicia Keys’ Annual Keep a Child Alive Black Ball Thursday night. Must be because somebody’s got his back.

He started off the night by playfully grabbing the microphone of a reporter from the Tyra Banks Show to announce his own “talk show is going to be called John!”

And while the singer may be joking about his next career move, he had some serious words about girlfriend Jennifer Aniston. “It’s really nice to have somebody in life have your back,” Mayer told PEOPLE. “That girl knows me … so whether I go to bed alone or not, to have somebody who knows you in this world, that’s a really nice thing.”

So is there any chance that Mayer will follow in Aniston’s footsteps and star on a television show? “There are rumors,” Mayer admitted. “I’m going to keep them rumors for the time being. I want everything to be as baked as possible before it comes out of the oven.”

If Mayer were to have a show, he said, “it would be nice to go back to a form of entertainment that doesn’t involve judging and criticizing. I’d like to entertain people with their phones down. It’s time to watch TV and be entertained by great artists without having to have a say in it.”

Entertain he did! Mayer got into a friendly bidding war with Queen Latifah over a lithograph during a live auction at the benefit. Fortunately, the charity was the big winner. There was an identical lithograph available so each star paid $100,000.
