Joel Madden whisked girlfriend Nicole Richie and their three-and-a-half-month-old daughter Harlow to the California desert this weekend for a surprise family vacation, the Good Charlotte singer tells People.
The Richie-Madden clan headed to the Palm Springs area for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, a three-day event headlined by performers including Prince, Jack Johnson and Roger Waters.
“[Nicole] hasn’t been able to do a whole lot over the year, so we’re having a little family trip,” Madden told People at the BPM Hpnotiq Smurf House, where he DJ’d a festival pre-party Saturday afternoon.
“I [rented] a house and surprised Nicole with a weekend trip because she likes Coachella. She was like, ‘I really want to go!’ So I surprised her. We brought the baby.”
And their activity? “Hanging by the pool.”
While Madden, 29, spun music for party guests including Dave Annable and Taryn Manning, a smiling, relaxed Richie, 26, chatted with friends about her daughter, who was being looked after at their nearby rental home.

Meanwhile, Joel’s twin brother Benji Madden and his girlfriend Paris Hilton, who last week celebrated their relationship’s two-month anniversary, were also in town for the music festival.
So which couple will make it to the altar first? “We’re the family with the baby so I think probably us, but who knows,” says Joel – who remained mum on his and Richie’s wedding plans.

Paris Hilton, apparently, can never have enough of the many publication she’s received. Has just been praised by young actress Hayden Panettiere as “a marketing genius,” Paris arguably is, indeed, when it comes to making publicity for the sake of money. The celebrity socialite who is currently on tour with her Good Charlotte rocker beau Benji Madden reportedly is planning a double wedding with her BFF Nicole Richie and her baby’s daddy Joel Madden.
Not without reason, but Paris is said to have been wanting it in order to boost sales of pictures from the wedding as she’s convinced she can bank millions off the photos. “She’s doing it all for attention, as usual,” said a friend of her. “It’s a publicity stunt, just like everything else.”
A representative for Paris slammed the report though, insisted “Not true whatsoever.”
Paris herself keeps adding fuel to the wedding rumors as she’s been snapped buying a wedding book. The Hilton Hotel heiress was photographed by X17 paying a visit to Book Soup on Sunset on Monday afternoon, April 21. In addition to a Marilyn Monroe photo book, she according to the site also purchased “Grace Kelly: Icon of Style to Royal Bride - a look back at the princess’ 1956 fairy-tale wedding.”

Joel Madden has hailed his three-month-old daughter Harlow Winter as his “one and only true love” - without his girlfriend Nicole Richie even meriting a mention.
The singer made the confession to the 1,700-strong crowd at his New York concert at Queen’s College on Wednesday, as Richie, his partner of 15 months, looked on from the side of the stage.
After performing hit Hold On (If You Feel Like Letting Go), he told the audience, “You know, no matter how many beautiful girls there are in this audience, I must confess that three months ago, I had a little baby girl, and she’s my one and only true love.”
Madden also revealed Harlow was a big fan of British rockers The Cure - and dedicated their 1989 track Love Song to the tot.
He said, “Before I left on tour… I used to sing songs to (Harlow) every day. And there’s a band she really likes, it’s called The Cure. Big Cure fan. So I’ve learned all their songs and we’ll sing one tonight. This is called ‘Love Song.’”

Rockers Joel and Benji Madden, along with Paris Hilton are to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Smurfs at the 2008 Coachella Festival.
The trio will be among the celebrity DJs performing at The Smurf Village, which is located close to the Coachella site in the California desert.
The Smurf Village will operate from April 25th to April 27th.

Twin rockers Joel and Benji Madden fight all the time when they’re living in close quarters - spelling trouble for their relationships with best-friend duo Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton.
The brothers, who front rock band Good Charlotte, are constantly bickering and deliberately destroy each other’s possessions in an effort to get a reaction.
But they never take their arguments on stage with them because they have too much respect for their fans to ruin a gig.
Joel says, “We don’t always get on that well. We do fight sometimes. It’s normally over something stupid, but our pride will get in the way. The last time we got into a fight he (Benji) took my computer and smashed it. Eventually though we just laughed about it and couldn’t remember what we were fighting about.”

Nicole Richie has denied a report she plans to marry her boyfriend Joel Madden this summer, insisting the rocker hasn’t even proposed.
Richie and Madden, who have baby daughter Harlow Winter Kate together, were said to be sending out invites for their impending nuptials as early as next week.
But a spokesperson for The Simple Life star says, “They are not even engaged.”
