Jay-Z is ecstatic with the way his performance was received by revellers at English music festival Glastonbury – branding the experience “amazing”.
Carter prompted a media furore after it was announced he would headline the event at the festival Pyramid Stage – prompting rocker Noel Gallagher to say: “I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong. Jay-Z’s got no chance.”
But the negative press he received spurred the hip-hop mogul on to wow the crowd – and he’s proud of his on-stage achievements.
He tells MTV News, “It was a historic night for Glastonbury and for myself (as) it’s the first time a hip-hop act had headlined.”
And the star used Gallagher’s hit track Wonderwall to open his Saturday night set, because he knew the mainly British audience would understand the irony behind the decision.
He says, “That’s my sense of humour. I have a sense of humour like a Brit so I thought people would appreciate that. Noel Gallagher was one of the biggest detractors so I figured that was a cool way to start the show.”
“I play that song (Wonderwall) a lot at my restaurant on Friday nights – after we’ve had a few drinks it works really well. That’s how I knew it so well.”
And when asked if he would play the festival again, the rapper adds, “Of course. It was incredible. I even had wellies in the car but I didn’t need them!”

Jay-Z has laughed off any talk of entering politics – insisting he’d be assassinated if he ever tried to run for president.
The 99 Problems star has expanded his business empire to include music publishing, clothing and alcohol – as well as owning shares in basketball team the New Jersey Nets.
But he has dismissed the idea of turning his attentions to politics and the state of America, because he would face heavy criticism over his personal life and criminal history.
And he compares it to the backlash presidential candidate Barack Obama experienced when his pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, was forced to step down from his White House campaign after making several controversial comments about 9/11 and Black America earlier this year.
Asked by London’s Time Out magazine whether he’d ever stand for office, the rapper jokes, “No, they’ll kill me in 30 seconds. ‘S**t! This guy’s in!’ Bang! Ha ha! I won’t make it past the primaries!
“They talk about Obama’s priest – imagine what they’d do to me!”
Jay-Z has a criminal record from an incident in 1999, when he was accused of stabbing record executive Lance ‘Un’ Rivera. He denied the charge and reached a plea with prosecutors, which resulted in the star pleading guilty to a misdemeanour and sentenced to three years’ probation.

Rap superstar Jay-Z is desperate for a break from his hectic U.K. tour schedule – so he can hit London’s casinos.
The Big Pimpin’ hitmaker, real name Shawn Carter, is currently playing a string of dates across the country, including performances at England’s famous Glastonbury festival and London’s O2 Wireless music event.
And Jay-Z, who harbours a secret love of gambling, enjoys being able to hit the poker and blackjack tables without being hassled by fans – so he refuses to reveal his favourite hangouts.
He tells London’s Time Out magazine, “I’m a pretty big, almost professional, gambler. I’m not gonna say any names because that’ll mess it all up, but there’re these little private clubs you can go to in the West End where you can hang out and gamble, and it’s pretty cool.”

Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter is looking to expand his range of investments into the baseball world – he wants to own shares in the New York Yankees.
The rap superstar already heads up an empire that includes the Roc-A-Fella Records music label, Rocawear clothing and Armadale vodka – in addition to being a shareholder in the New Jersey Nets basketball team.
He has previously been linked to a deal with London soccer team Arsenal Football Club, and while Jay-Z admits the rumors were true, negotiations fell through in 2005.
And now the star has a new sporting interest – he’s in the midst of talks to buy shares in the Yankees.
He tells London’s Time Out magazine, “I had invested in the Nets, and they (Arsenal bosses) asked me if I was interested in investing. But I get that from time to time.
“Someone told me yesterday that someone else had a piece of the New York Yankees – ‘We wanna talk to you, yadda yadda yadda.’ I mean, I love the Yankees so I’m in the middle of following that through, but sometimes it comes to be nothing. That (Arsenal) was one of the times it came to nothing.”

Jigga what? A guy wants $88 million bucks out of Jay-Z not for a lyric he jacked, or a sample he stole — but for stealing that ultra-exclusive technique of … rapping in a low whisper.
We’re not kidding: Mitchell Rose, who tells us he’s a boxer/lawyer/rapper, has filed suit in Brooklyn alleging that he created the technique of “whisper rapping.” Rose says that Hova subsequently adopted the technique without properly crediting him — and now he wants to get paid!
The same Mitchell Rose once wrote a book called “Mike Tyson Tried to Kill My Daddy.” Jay-Z’s rep didn’t return our call for comment.

Jay-Z and Beyonce have bought their first house as husband and wife – in the same New York county that they wed in last month.
The newlyweds exchanged vows in a private ceremony at a chapel in Scarsdale Village in Westchester County on April 4th, before holding a reception at the rapper’s luxury penthouse apartment in the TriBeCa area of New York City.
And the stars have now decided to call Scarsdale home, after purchasing a modern colonial property measuring 15,000 square-feet in the quiet community, according to TMZ.
