Janet Jackson scraps plans for a European tour

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson has reportedly scrapped any plans to hit Europe with her forthcoming Rock Witchu tour following her record label’s decision to cease promoting her latest album, Discipline.

The Nasty singer was due to play a series of live dates across Europe after embarking on her first series of concert shows for seven years in the U.S. and Canada, with her first gig in Vancouver, Canada on September 10th.

However, the singer has now decided to just dedicate herself to the North American leg of her tour, citing frustration with her Def Jam label bosses’ lack of support in promoting her new album, according to People.com.

The star tells hip-hop website SOHH.com, “It was definitely in my heart to go to Europe and to support this album… it’s about teamwork, it’s not something I can totally do on my own. Unfortunately, things have turned out the way that they have with the differences between the label and myself.”

Earlier this month, Jackson told how there will be no further singles from her Discipline album, after record label bosses were disappointed with sales – shifting only 392,000 copies in the U.S.

She explained, “I’m trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album, so I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off this album.”

At the height of her popularity, Jackson scored 19 hit singles from just three LPs – Control, Rhythm Nation: 1812 and janet. And she still holds the record for scoring number ones in America from the same album, over three successive years.

Janet Jackson’s label has ceased all promotion of Discipline

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson has another album flop on her hands – bosses at her record label have ceased promoting Discipline and there are no more single releases planned.

Jackson, who once broke chart records with seven U.S. top five hits from one album – Rhythm Nation 1812, has scored only one hit from her new release, Feedback. And there are no plans to try to top that.

Jackson writes, “We started off with Feedback and the label and myself haven’t quite seen eye to eye since the Feedback single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion. I’m trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album, so I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off this album.”

At the height of her popularity, Jackson scored 19 hit singles from just three albums – Control, Rhythm Nation: 1812 and janet. And she still holds the record for scoring number ones in America from the same album, over three successive years.

Janet Jackson surprises The View host Sherri Shepherd

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson made a dream come true for U.S. TV presenter Sherri Shepherd by making a surprise appearance on her chat show The View.

Shepherd has long been a fan of the singer and recently announced she would be willing to sleep in the street to secure tickets to Jackson’s forthcoming tour.

But the pop star made a surprise guest appearance on the show on Tuesday and presented a delighted Shepherd with seats to one of her autumn concerts.

The TV presenter was overwhelmed, embracing Jackson and telling her, “I’m such a fan of yours. I have every album; I have every poster; I have all of your programme books. Aside from Michael (Jackson), you are my second favorite, girl.”

The Control hitmaker will open her Rock Witchu tour in Vancouver, British Columbia on 7 September.

Janet Jackson wants kids “at some point”

Janet Jackson

Is Jermaine Dupri the jealous type?

Yes, according to longtime gal pal Janet Jackson.

The R&B songstress has a steamy love scene in her new video, “Rock with You,” with a much younger man, 21-year-old choreographer Tony Testa, and she says her beau didn’t really seem to like that plot element.

“He said nothing! Nothing,” she tells Extra. “I said, ‘Okay, I can tell there’s a little bit of jealousy.’”

Jermaine has nothing to worry about though. He and Janet have been together for six years and she only sees a future with him — and possibly one with children.

“At some point in my life I do [want to have kids],” she says. “When I was younger, I used to babysit. I used to babysit my nieces and nephews.”

Janet was, of course, surrounded by kids herself during her childhood, being the youngest of nine children. And how about all those rumors of a Jackson family stage reunion in Las Vegas?

“This is the first I’ve heard that,” she says. “I would love for my brothers to get together.”

Janet Jackson plans her first tour in seven years

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is to hit the road for the first time since 2001, with Vancouver the launch pad for a new North American tour.

The Rhythm Nation star will tour through North America – including stops in New York and Washington – before her Rock Witchu tour goes worldwide, she explained in an interview with the Associated Press news agency.

“It’s been a while so I really want to make my rounds,” she said. “I haven’t been to Australia in a very long time; I can’t wait to go there. There are a lot of places where I really want to stop off at, and that’s the idea, that’s the goal with this tour.”

The 42-year-old revealed she had planned a series of concerts after the 2006 release of her album 20 Y.O., only for her record label to request that she postpone her plans in order to work on a new CD.

“I was supposed to go on tour with the last album,” she explained.

“We were actually in full-blown tour rehearsals at that point… learning numbers, getting everything together, set designs.

“I had to kind of shut everything down and go into the studio.”

Her most recent album Discipline hit the shelves in February and Jackson promised a dramatic stage show to support her last two releases.

“It will definitely be a big production but it will definitely also be something that I’ve never done before, that people have never seen from me before,” she added.

Tickets for the tour, for which the full itinerary will be announced next week, go on sale on June 7th.

Janet Jackson praises the man behind her wardrobe malfunction

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson has heaped praise on the designer of her infamous nipple-baring Super Bowl costume, branding him a great “love” in her life.

The singer was forced to issue an apology for the 2004 “wardrobe malfunction”, which happened when Justin Timberlake tore off part of her corset during a half-time duet, exposing her breast to millions of unsuspecting viewers of the American football event.

British designer Alexander McQueen confirmed he created the tight black outfit Jackson wore on the night earlier this week, prompting the pop star to come to his defence, insisting she does not hold him responsible for the incident.

She tells Fox News, “I thought maybe only half of the outfit was (his design), but I guess he did all of it.”
She adds, “I don’t blame him; he didn’t rip it. Alexander is so great at what he does – he’s a genius. I’ve loved him for a long time, ever since I saw one of his very first shows 10 years ago in London, which is where we first met.”
