While I thought Jake Gyllenhaal would certainly hit the Golden Globes solo after his recent split from girlfriend Taylor Swift, I was wrong! He showed up with a pretty redhead on his arm, ex-girlfriend Jenny Lewis!

Gyllenhaal dated the Rilo Kiley singer back in 2001, his Donnie Darko days, and showed up with her on his arm Sunday evening in Los Angeles.

Seems like no one wants to break up with Taylor Swift face-to-face cause the singer was dumped via phone…again. (Rumor has it Joe Jonas also broke up with her via phone after briefly dating.)

According to the new US Weekly, Jake Gyllenhaal was the one to call things off, and apparently couldn’t face her to break the news.

Friends close to the star tell Us Weekly that Taylor’s pain was most evident at the Jan. 5 People’s Choice Awards.

“She was not her usual bubbly, over-animated self,” the source says. “She didn’t eat anything, seemed very sad and definitely wasn’t having a good time.”

Although the couple only dated for two months, Taylor was taken aback when Jake ended their high-profile romance with a phone call telling her it wasn’t working out.

“Taylor is really upset and hurt,” another friend tells the mag. “She doesn’t know what she did for him to just put a stop to it. She feels really burned by him.”

Previous reports point to Jake’s unease with paparazzi attention and their nine-year age difference as the reasons for their breakup.

Not that I care to get into the middle of what happened – and who did what – and all that crap (but I will) … it sure looks like Jake was head over heels for the girl. He reportedly had his agents contact her agents to arrange a meeting in the beginning – then things got heavy pretty quickly. He invited her to share Thanksgiving with him and his family (Taylor was pictured holding hands with Jake’s niece!), and the couple were spotted out all over each other in NYC. He also reportedly dropped $160K renting Taylor a private jet so she could fly to him. Why all these grand acts – and the relationship dissolved so quickly? What happened!? Tell me Jakey!

Was it all a huge PR act (to hide Jake’s gayness…many websites claim) or does Jake just have a thing for young girls? He seems much more like the monogamous types – so why did it end so quickly? We may never know.

But knowing Swift, we will know. According to US Weekly, she’s so upset, she’s not eating. She’s also working out like crazy – trying to numb the pain, I’m sure. There’s a sad song in there somewhere. Maybe she’s writing it as we speak!

Jake Gyllenhaal got a chance to roast ex-girlfriend Natalie Portman at last night’s Palm Springs International Film Awards. The two dated back in 2002, and were rumored to have re-kindled their romance in 2006.

Before awarding Portman, 29, the Desert Palm Achievement Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Jake Gyllenhaal was unabashed in his praise for his one-time girlfriend, whom he dated briefly in 2006.

“Natalie is the Audrey Hepburn of our generation,” the actor says, “She is elegant, graceful, has amazing eyebrows … is talented, really short, funny, smart, dedicated, incredibly kind.”

But despite her attempts to prove otherwise, no one is perfect, and with Portman’s fiancé, Benjamin Millepied looking, – and laughing – along, Gyllenhaal eventually got around to the “flaws” of the this award season’s it girl.

“She’s a vegan, which makes it really frustrating when you’re picking a place to eat,” Gyllenhaal said with a laugh, before adding, “She’s also recently announced that she’s going to be a mom, and her child will probably need therapy after seeing Black Swan.”

Word that Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift broke up leaked yesterday, and now, we know why the big split went down.

According to Us Weekly, it was Jake that both initiated the relationship (the two first appeared together in Brooklyn in October) and decided to end it. Why? Cameras, for one thing.

“He said he wasn’t feeling it anymore and was uncomfortable with all the attention they got,” and insider told the Magazine. “He also said he could feel the age difference.”

Gyllenhaal is 29, while Swift is 21.

After ending things, which happened just before the holidays, Swift and Gyllenhaal spent New Year’s Eve alone. For her part, Swift is devastated.

“Taylor is really upset,” the source continued. “We told her not to move so fast with this but she didn’t listen.”

On the plus side, at least she’s got some new material for her next album.

More importantly – how long until Taylor Swift writes a song – so we can know exactly what went wrong? Jakey’s probably shaking in his boots. Taylor’s famous for writing songs about ex-boyfriends, and not in a “Your Body is a Wonderland” kinda way.

Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal rang in 2011 solo and according to several reports, the couple have split.

“They’re over,” a source tells PEOPLE. “It ended last month.”

The pair were first spotted together at a ‘Saturday Night Live’ taping in October, but the duo had a PDA-filled weekend over Thanksgiving.

Swift and Gyllenhaal were last seen publicly together on Dec. 9. Rumors first surfaced about their alleged split after Gyllenhaal was not in attendance for Swift’s 21st birthday party a few weeks ago.

Swift, famous for penning songs about her love life, might just be writing a new song about Gyllenhaal. The singer, who dated Taylor Lautner in 2009, penned apology song ‘Back to December’ for the ‘Twilight’ hunk and reportedly wrote her latest single, ‘Dear John,’ about rumored ex John Mayer.

I’m fine with this breakup, I didn’t like it from the get-go. I felt betrayed by Jake, and I don’t know why.

Anne Hathaway is still promoting her movie, Love And Other Drugs. In doing so, she gave a new interview where she talked about having an intellectual orgy with co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.

She said, “We talked about our own experiences with love and intimacy, about what turned us on and what didn’t. So it was completely open from the get-go. Jake described it as kind of intellectual orgy and I think that sums it up best!”

She went on to say that the movie has so many adult themes that younger kids just wouldn’t understand. She said, “This is a sophisticated look at adult love. It isn’t a movie for teenagers. I don’t think they would understand it.”

Jake Gyllenhaal used to get it on a lot in his younger days. He said that has more important things to worry about, now that he’s a bit older.

He said, “I think casual sex some people are into, I definitely have been in my life at times. I think you find other things more important as time goes on.”

He went on to talk about his new movie Love And Other Drugs, saying, “I feel people might be tired of the normal cliched typical movie and so we put our minds together and I think we raised the stakes. We decided it was going to be two characters that both really couldn’t be intimate and so we both went to sex as a way of avoiding things. The movie does start off with the two of them sort of primal and animalistically having sex.”
