Almost two weeks after her father was arrested on charges of felony spousal abuse, actress Hayden Panettiere has finally decided to break her silence on the sensitive matter.
“It was blown way out of proportion by a sheriff who wanted his 15 minutes of fame,” the actress, who just celebrated her 19th birthday on Aug. 21, tells TV’s Extra. “My family is wonderful. So very happy. We’re all great.”
On Aug. 11, the Heroes star’s father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, was taken into police custody and charged with the abuse after allegedly striking his wife, Lesley, during an argument in their L.A. home. Hayden, who has a home of her own nearby, was not in her parents’ house at the time.

Hayden Panettiere had to stop her mother selling her underwear on the internet.
The actress has been raising money for Save the Whales by auctioning off her belongings through her website Panettiere’s Closet.
But some embarrassing items almost ended up on the site.
The 18-year-old explains, “You acquire a lot of stuff so I decided to put it on the website. Mom pulled out some embarrassing stuff, but I’m like, ‘Just don’t pull out my underwear’.”

Hayden Panettiere has been given the all-clear to return to Japan after an arrest warrant was issued for her following an anti-whaling protest there last year.
Last November, the Heroes star joined animal rights activists in a protest against the slaughtering of dolphins in the historic whaling town of Taiji, Japan prompting local authorities to issue a warrant for her arrest.
But Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura has personally welcomed the actress back to the country, telling her she has nothing to fear.
Panettiere tells HollyScoop.com, “I think they did it (issue an arrest warrant) to pretty much scare us from coming back. I went and had a meeting with the Foreign Minister and he said I was welcome anytime. Very kind man. Very welcoming, and he said I was his most welcome guest, so there’s a shocker.”
And the actress cannot wait to return: “The culture is such that it’s one of the kindest, most polite, most welcoming cultures you can ever run across.”

Milo Ventimiglia turned pit photographer on Saturday to capture girlfriend Hayden Panettiere’s latest allstar gig.
The actor urged event snappers to concentrate on his teenage girlfriend and not him as he tried to get shots of Panettiere’s concert with Band From TV.
One fellow snapper tells WENN, “He told us, `I’m just one of you guys tonight.’”
The actress performed with Heroes co-stars Greg Grunberg and Adrian Pasdar, James Denton and House castmates Jesse Spencer and Hugh Laurie, who all make up Band From TV.
Denton’s Desperate Housewives co-star Teri Hatcher also sang with the band at the outdoor concert at the Autry National Center of The American West.

Hayden Panettiere’s father, Alan, was released from custody on $50,000 bail Monday afternoon after being arrested for allegedly striking the actress’s mother.
Panettiere, 49, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. at the family’s West Hollywood home and spent about 10 hours in Los Angeles County sheriff’s custody. He was booked on a charge of felony domestic violence following a fight with wife Lesley Vogel, 52, deputies said.
On Sunday evening, the couple attended a Hollywood charity benefit for the Whaleman Foundation hosted by their daughter at Beso restaurant, and the pair were seen arguing.
A sheriff’s spokesman says that Alan struck Lesley one or two times on the cheek causing bruising. Another sheriff’s official says that alcohol was involved in the incident.
An observer at the party tells People: “When they were both about to leave, they had a heated argument outside the restaurant. They were doing a good amount of yelling.”
