Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow was “devastated” when she first met her rock idol Courtney Love – because the singer was “really horrible” to her. The unlikely pair is now firm friends, but, during their first encounter on the set of Paltrow’s 1999 movie Shakespeare In Love, the actress was shocked by the former Hole frontwoman’s rude behaviour towards her.
She tells Elle magazine, “We were in an elevator and she was really horrible to me. And I was the biggest Hole fan of all time. I was devastated. Then she went on a drugs spiral.”
However, Love subsequently apologized for her harsh words, and the touching moment led to a close friendship between the two.
Paltrow adds, “When she got sober, she contacted me and was like, ‘I feel like I missed an opportunity with you.’ Then we just started texting and talking and now when she’s here (in the U.K.) she comes round. When we’re in L.A. we have dinner.”

Praising her Coldplay rocker husband Chris Martin for his loyalty, Gwyneth Paltrow also says that her marriage is just fine, thank you.
Speaking to the U.K. edition of Elle, Paltrow admits that she cannot listen to Coldplay’s “Swallowed in the Sea” “without crying,” because it helped her cope with the loss of her father, Bruce Paltrow, whose October 2002 death left her devastated and depressed.
“It’s so hard for me to listen to some of those songs,” the Oscar winner says of “Swallowed” and “Fix You.” As for Martin, “I’m amazed he stuck with me [at the time her dad died], because I was a wreck. I can’t believe that he did.”

But stick with her he did, and the couple now have two children: Apple, 4, and Moses, 2.
Despite that, the Martins are dogged with rumors about their marriage, because they are often not seen with each other. As she has said, they simply don’t like being photographed on the red carpets arm in arm.
“It doesn’t behoove us to be a public couple,” adds Paltrow, who’ll be a Grammy presenter this weekend.
“He certainly doesn’t want to be that. We’ve never ever walked down a red carpet together, we never will. If people think that that means we’re not together, then – ha ha ha! – so be it.”
Despite her image as a goody-two-shoes, she speaks of enjoying Guinness stout, red wine – which, she says, makes her “warm and talkative” after a few – and dreams of smoking again one day.
“The last cigarette I smoked was the day I found out I was pregnant with Apple,” she says. “I’m so pissed off it gives you cancer. But then, once you have children, if you’ve witnessed a death like I did with my father, you just can’t. But I’ve decided that when I’m about 70 I’m going to start smoking again. Why not? I can’t wait!’ ”

Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow is talking about the critics of her lifestyle blog, Goop, in the March 2009 issue of British Elle.
“F*** the haters! I saw this blog of people writing horrible things about me and for a second your ego is so wounded,” the 36-year-old says in Elle’s annual Fashion Issue.
“How could people hate me, my intentions or what I’m trying to do? I’m a good person and I’m trying to put good things into the world. I’m probably less square than people think. I never get drunk to the point of throwing up. But I get very talkative.”
She also discussed her husband Chris Martin and the fact that they are never photographed together.
“It doesn’t behove us to be a public couple. He certainly doesn’t want to be that. I mean, we’ve never ever walked down a red carpet together, we never will.”
I know I’m probably alone, but I’ve always loved Gwyneth. Most of ya’ll can’t stand her – and I’ve never understood it. I love her!
