“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo graces the cover of the new issue of TV Guide magazine — on newsstands on Thursday — and ET is behind the scenes of the photo shoot to get the inside story.

One juicy bit of news that the actress tells the magazine is that her days as Meredith Grey are numbered. “I have two more seasons and will finish the show when my contract is up,” she reveals.

“Grey’s” has returned with new episodes and life has been difficult for Meredith, who was trying to keep the fact that Richard (James Pickens Jr.) — aka the Chief — has been hitting the bottle a secret from everyone.

But Derek (Patrick Dempsey) got suspicious, and Meredith finally told him the truth, especially when Derek promised to re-hire Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) if the board made him the replacement chief.

“Ultimately what Meredith would like to happen is for the Chief to get treatment and help for his alcoholism and be the man we all know he is,” Ellen tells the magazine. “I think the Chief is discouraged and wants to quit medicine forever. Meredith is trying to get him to seek treatment and feel good about himself.”

For the first time on the series, Meredith’s character is showing her sunny side, but she says there is no guarantee that it will stay that way.

“You just have to wait a few minutes and it will all change,” she says. “Anything you think is real, you turn the corner and it changes.”

Ellen missed a few episodes of the hit ABC doctor drama following the birth of her daughter Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery, who was born last September. That said, there are no photos of her daughter on the “Grey’s” set, — and that, says the actress, is because she isn’t willing to share her daughter quite yet.

“I enjoy everything about her, even her spit-ups and her poops. She is the light of my eye and my husband’s, too.”

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo is out and about in the rain as she appears to have nearly returned to her original figure after just giving birth a month ago. The actress takes a yoga class and meets a friend for lunch in the Sunset Plaza. After parting ways, Ellen visits a magazine stand and tries to stay dry while stopping at a deli. She eventually opts for the convenience of a drive-through pharmacy at CVS to pick up her meds before heading home.

Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo and husband Chris Ivery have welcomed their first child, a girl, her rep tells Usmagazine.com exclusively.

“Her name is Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery,” her rep tells Us. “She was born Sept. 15 in Los Angeles.”

Pompeo, 39, and the music producer, 41 — who tied the knot at a small ceremony in 2007 — announced they were expecting in April.

“It’s a huge lifestyle change, and I take that very seriously,” she told Allure in 2008 of motherhood. “[Chris and I] enjoy our life so much. We go to Europe and sleep in. So when I have the baby, I won’t feel like we’ve missed any fun, reckless times together, like staying up all night drinking champagne and having sex until five in the morning and not having to get up until two in the afternoon.”

Her Grey’s costar, Jessica Capshaw, told Us Pompeo was ready to be a mom.

“She is so on top of it, and she is so excited, and she is very sweet about it,” she told Us in May. “She is doing her research.”

Added Capshaw, “She is exactly the way that she should be about it, which is really excited and hopeful but at the same time really pragmatic and planning. And I think that is the best way for her to be.”

The new season of Grey’s Anatomy starts Sept. 24. Her costar Katherine Heigl recently adopted a baby girl from Korea.
