More time to concentrate on Dancing With The Stars…
Now, again, I don’t think what Ryan Lochte did was entirely wrong- he just exaggerated. Does that make me a Ryan Lochte apologist? Maybe. But in any case, just got his punishment for his Rio gas station hijinks, and it’s tough, but not career-ending.
So what’s the deal? Well, according to TMZ, Lochte has been suspended from swimming for 10 months with additional sanctions, according to the USOC and the IOC and USA Swimming.
To put it into perspective: the punishment is harsher than Michael Phelps‘ 6 month suspension for his 2 DUIs (yikes, remember that?), because Phelps endagered lives. The punishment for Lochte was debated upon for a long time within the USOC, because Lochte arguably didn’t lie about a material fact. A lot of people at the USOC think it’s too severe, but it’s not going to break him.
The other 3 swimmers involved in the Rio incident were also suspended, but for less time. Again- not horrible, it’s not going to break anybody.
