Amy Schumer is still kicking A.
Last year was definitely Amy Schumer’s year, and I’m curious about how she’s going to follow up her year of comedy specials, hit movies and her killer TV show. I know she has a new book coming out, but still. 2015 was SO BIG for her. Anyhow, I was drawn to this Vogue piece to get some answers, as Amy is on the cover of their July issue. You can read the full interview (by Jonathan Van Meter) here, but here are some highlights:
Her hustle: ââ¬ÅI wouldnââ¬â¢t know what motivates Tina Fey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. This insatiable drive. I have it too. Sometimes I feel like theyââ¬â¢re hustling, they want something, and theyââ¬â¢re not going to stop until they get it, and they play the game. I am very into making up my own rules. Like, I donââ¬â¢t want to play the game and succeed at it. I want to redefine it. Thatââ¬â¢s the only way I can deal with it. Maybe thatââ¬â¢s naïve.ââ¬Â
She doesnââ¬â¢t get fashion: ââ¬ÅI donââ¬â¢t think itââ¬â¢s stupid; thereââ¬â¢s no moral reasoning. Itââ¬â¢s just not my thing. I just have this sense of entitlement that I should be able to feel comfortable at all times, like I could go to bed at any moment in what Iââ¬â¢m wearing.ââ¬Â
Her feminism & liberalism: ââ¬ÅI have this innate need to say things that I think are important for people to hear. And I canââ¬â¢t stand injustice, so even if it makes people uncomfortable, Iââ¬â¢m not afraid enough to conflict to keep my mouth shut.ââ¬Â
Taking care of herself & love: She is a devoted practitioner of TM, avails herself to weekly acupuncture sessions, doesnââ¬â¢t touch caffeine, juices every morning, and enforces a prayer circle with her family and crew before each show. She is also seriously involved with Ben Hanisch, a 29-year-old furniture designer in Chicago. ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢re in love,ââ¬Â she says. ââ¬ÅAnd weââ¬â¢re still in a total honeymoon phase. Itââ¬â¢s a real relationship. Who knows what will happen, but weââ¬â¢re real good right now.ââ¬Â
Nothing really about her book popped out at me, which is good. But maybe it’s more of a healing year for her, versus a “get s*it done” year? Ebb and flow, baby. Ebb and flow.
