They can’t all be Jennifer Lawrences, can they?
Amy Schumer and Tig Notaro, are no longer friends because comedians are just like real people: fake, angry and wont to fracture their relationships in ways that can’t be repaired. And this is one such relationship. You may know Tig as a writer for Inside Amy Schumer, The Sarah Silverman Show and a pretty successful comedian in her own right. Tig Notaro got down deep about her fracture with Amy ina recent interview with The Guardian, and in case you couldn’t already have guessed, it was AWKS. Tig was asked about some comments Amy made about Tig to Vanity Fair back in 2012, and Amy was quoted as saying this about her “close friend†Tig:
“Looking masculine and being gay, the challenges of the road are 20 times harder for Tig than other female comedians. People fear what they don’t understand.“
Fast forward 4 years later: they’re definitely neither “close†nor “friends†anymore. When asked if it was still true that it was 20 times harder for Tig than other female comedians, Tig responded with this:
Anger sparks in Notaro’s normally calm eyes. “I don’t know what she was talking about. It sounds like offensive nonsense to me. I find that so offensive and weird,†she says, looking down, trying to control her very audible irritation. “If you knew me well, you would never say that.â€
And then Tig got even more pissed- not even calling Amy a friend.
“Ummm…†Notaro says, looking away. Did you just work with her? The atmosphere, previously relaxed, has palpably prickled. “I’ve worked with her. I worked with her for the first season [of Inside Amy Schumer]. Let’s leave it there,†Notaro says, closing down the subject.

Not too long after, Tig took a swipe at some “inauthentic†comedians who she claims tried to take care of her during her breast cancer struggle “just to look good.†Dang. You hear that, Amy?
This makes me really sad, because I like both of them so much. But I get it, crazy shizzz can go down in show business and in life (and with cancer in the mix? Who frigging knows).
Maybe they’ll make amends, someday?
