Okay, so not her next Oscar win, but it pays the mortgage…
Alicia Vikander has signed on to star in Tomb Raider for MGM, Warner Bros. and GK Films, The Hollywood Reporter reports. And it’s not the Angelina Jolie tomb raider this time. The new film will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure…so like an updated prequel.
Vikander, who won an Oscar for her turn in The Danish Girl, is hoping to become just as bankable as Jolie but honestly do people really care about these types of franchises much anymore? Or, Tomb Raider? I know The Hunger Games was huge for Jennifer Lawrence, but Shailene Woodley didn’t have the same luck with the Divergent series. I feel like nobody cares about Tomb Raider anymore. Or hey, maybe it’s just me?
Last year was a turning point for Vikander, who won an Oscar for her performance in The Danish Girl while also starring in Ex Machina, Burnt and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. This year she continues working like a BOSS, and will be seen in the drama The Light Between Oceans as well as the Matt Damon action pic Jason Bourne.
So hey, if Tomb Raider fails, she has other things going on. Are you excited to see Alicia as Lara Croft?
