As the #OscarsSoWhite controversy rages on, here’s a bit more fodder for criticism…
A very white, British actor was just cast as the late Michael Jackson in an upcoming made-for-TV film about the singer’s rumored post-9/11 road trip with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando, and people are PISSED.
So who’s the lucky actor who gets all the heat for playing the King of Pop? Find out, after the jump!
It’s none other than whiter than white Joseph Fiennes!
The film is being promoted as a “one-off special” for British channel Sky Arts, and will essentially recount the story of Jackson inviting Taylor and Brando to his Madison Square Garden concert prior to the terrorist attacks in NYC. Afterward, the trio was stranded, unable to fly anywhere, so they rented a car to return to California, culminating in a zany road trip! The story was never verified, but oh, if it was…that would be AMAZING.
The film will feature Fiennes as Jackson, Stockard Channing as Taylor and Brian Cox as Brando. It is currently titled Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon.
According to US Weekly, Fiennes has described the script as “a fun, lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek road trip of what celebrity of that kind is like.”
Will you watch?!
