Yes, this dirty hippie is back in action, but this time she won’t be all latex-y and grinding up against Robin Thicke‘s gross ding dong. NO- it’ll be HER PARTY.
The New York Times caught up with Miley Cyrus and asked her all kinds of VMA-related stuff.ÃÂ And we culled it down to the good snippets. You’re welcome…
How she thinks back on the 2013 VMAS: “Everything Iââ¬â¢ve ever done has been true to me at that minute. Even down to my TV show [ââ¬ÅHannah Montanaââ¬Â] ââ¬â when I started I was 12 years old, and that was like a dream to me. So that was my truth at that moment. Me coming out of that teddy bear, to me, wasnââ¬â¢t just a teddy bear. My dad always explained it to me that you step into your happiness. Thatââ¬â¢s kind of like what I was doing. When I broke down the bear belly, I was really breaking out ââ¬â my show ended, and then I didnââ¬â¢t really work for two years. Thatââ¬â¢s when I did my most self-exploration. [The performance] was kind of going into this way of saying, ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢m just going to do what will make me happy.ââ¬Â At that moment, thatââ¬â¢s what really made me happy.”
Will you have an opening monologue? “Seth Rogen and his team helped us write a lot. [The artist] Jen Stark is doing the introduction for me, so Iââ¬â¢m coming out of one of her pieces. What Iââ¬â¢m trying to do is create my Instagram ââ¬â which people love to think is so freaky ââ¬â in real life. Itââ¬â¢s letting people into my world.”
On Nicki Minaj saying “a white girl who breaks a Vevo Record gets nominated: “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. Itââ¬â¢s not very polite. I think thereââ¬â¢s a way you speak to people with openness and love. You donââ¬â¢t have to start this pop star against pop star war. It became Nicki Minaj and Taylor in a fight, so now the story isnââ¬â¢t even on what you wanted it to be about. Now youââ¬â¢ve just given E! News ââ¬ÅCatfight! Taylor and Nicki Go at It. I know you can make it seem like, Oh I just donââ¬â¢t understand because Iââ¬â¢m a white pop star. I know the statistics. I know whatââ¬â¢s going on in the world. But to be honest, I donââ¬â¢t think MTV did that on purpose.”
