James Franco is a bit of a mess. Earlier this week, he was caught trying to pick up a 17-year-old girl on Instagram. Yes, he actually knew she was 17 and in fact told her not to tell anyone and wanted to know when she would be able to meet up at her hotel (she was visiting from Scotland at the time).
While many speculated that perhaps this was some big elaborate prank or part of viral marketing for an upcoming film, the truth is, James Franco’s a pervert and he’s embarrassed… not because of that, but because he got caught. That’s pretty much what he said during an appearance on Live! with Kelly and Michael on Friday morning.
“I was feeling awkward — I didn’t want to come on the show and just feel awkward,” Franco, 35, said to Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. “I’m embarrassed, and I guess I’m just a model of how social media is tricky. It’s the way that people meet each other today, but what I’ve learned — I guess because I’m new to it — is you don’t know who’s on the other end.”
“You get a feel for them, you don’t know who you’re talking to,” he continued. “I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson.”
I’m not sure why it’s acceptable that this is being played off as the fault of that “tricky” social media rather than his proclivity for underage girls. It’s slightly disturbing, to say the least…
