Russell Crowe isn’t Catholic, but he likes Pope Francis

If Russell Crowe doesn’t strike you as a particularly religious man, it’s for good reason – he isn’t one. In fact, he doesn’t really partake in the whole “faith” situation, but oddly, he still really likes Pope Francis, whom he recently met, fulfilling a longtime goal that started with Twitter outreach.

As he explained on Good Morning America:

“Look I’m not Catholic and I’ve never felt any connection with any previous Pope, but I like this guy,” he explained.

“I like what he says… he’s changing the tone of the way you regard the Pope and I think it is a magnificent thing. I was very privileged and humbled to be in that environment.”

I think a lot of people feel that way about Pope Francis, actually. As far as Catholic leaders go, he’s certainly a step up – and any step is a good step for the Catholic church.
I wonder if Russell’s interest in meeting the Pope stems from his role in Noah? Even though it’s a “liberal reimagining” of the Biblical tale, of course…
