Shocking news this morning, as Oscar Pistorius, who became famous in 2012 for competing in the Olympics without legs, has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.

Pistorius — the paralympian known as Blade Runner — is accused of shooting 30-year-old Reeva Steenkamp in the hand and head — allegedly with a 9 mm pistol found at the scene.

Pistorius, 26, had reportedly been dating Steenkamp for a few months. She was a law graduate and an aspiring model.

Steenkamp was killed inside Pistorius’ home in Pretoria, South Africa. There are reports there have been “previous incidents” between the two at the home.

Pistorius — considered a national hero in South Africa — was the first double amputee to compete in the Olympics.

I’ve read several reports saying that police had been called to his house in the past over domestic issues, but no word on what those were all about. Hopefully for everyone’s sake, this was just a tragic accident, and he didn’t intend to kill his girlfriend. How sad. On Valentine’s Day, even!

Rumor has it she was sneaking into his house late last night as part of a Valentine’s Day surprise. I’m not sure whose story that was, but one of her friends was outside the house at the time of the shooting – so it would makes sense that she was sneaking in to leave something for him.

Just yesterday Miss Steenkamp spoke excitedly on Twitter about her plans for Valentine’s Day.

She said: ‘What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? #getexcited #ValentinesDay’

Replying to a follower, she later added: ‘That sounds amazing! Wow that’s what it’s all about! It should be a day of love for everyone :) may it be blessed!’
