Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon surprised children at a school in New Orleans, Louisiana recently - by becoming a volunteer teacher for a day.
The kind-hearted mother-of-two visited the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School, where at-risk kids learn to become community leaders. During her trip, which was filmed for upcoming American Idol charity special Idol Gives Back, Witherspoon helped the children study and at one point read a book to a class of students.
The Walk The Line star isn’t the only celebrity taking part in the U.S. TV special - Brad Pitt, Bono, John Legend, Snoop Dogg and Carrie Underwood will also feature during the show, which is set to air on April 9th.

Katherine Heigl has hit back at critics who have hailed her as the next Julia Roberts, insisting the comparison is “insulting” to the Pretty Woman star.
Heigl found fame starring in TV medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, but has since found Hollywood success in movies like 2007’s Knocked Up. Her film outings have been well-received and critics have been quick to compare her to Roberts, who also starred in a number of romantic comedies throughout her career. But 29-year-old Heigl insists she is not out to copy anyone else’s acting style.
She says, “I can’t help but feel that’s (the comparison) is a little insulting to Julia Roberts. There’s not another woman who I look at and think, ‘That’s it, that’s whose career I want to have.’ “I’m just me and trying to do the best I can in every decision in any given moment.”

ITV1 has avoided punishment by the UK broadcasting watchdog after Sharon Osbourne swore during the Brit awards last month.
Ofcom said the award ceremony’s “reputation for controversy” meant viewers would expect a degree of bad language.
Almost 130 people complained when co-host Osbourne repeatedly swore at Vic Reeves as he slurred his presentation of an award.
“Get on with it, you p*ss-head,” she said in comments broadcast at 21:35 GMT on February 20th.
“Shut up you’re p*ssed, p*ss off! P*ss off you b*st*rd - p*ss off.”
Announcing its decision not to uphold the complaints, Ofcom said: “While we understand that this language may have been offensive to some viewers, it was broadcast after the watershed and in a program with a particular reputation.
“We believe that regular viewers would have been aware of the likelihood of this kind of material.”
A spokesperson added that the language employed by Osbourne had been “quite mild” and claimed the show’s portrayal of alcohol was “limited and incidental to the coverage”.
“In Ofcom’s view, the program did not condone or glamorize alcohol misuse,” a statement explained.
“The effect of these images was more likely to be cautionary than attractive.”

Looks like the Today Show’s got the right stuff: All five original New Kids on the Block members – Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight – will appear together in the morning show’s courtyard on April 4, a source tells PEOPLE.
After months of speculation, PEOPLE confirmed in January that the band is reuniting – just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their mega-hit album Hangin’ Tough. The group also recently updated its Web site, nkotb.com.
The boy band, which made legions of tweens swoon in the early ’90s, selling more than 50 million albums, became a worldwide phenomenon before calling it quits in 1994. Since then, the oldest “Kid,” Jonathan Knight, 39, retreated back to Boston to become a real estate developer. Former members Wahlberg, 38, and McIntyre, 35, have seen acting success, while Wood, 38, has worked as a music producer and Jordan Knight, 37, has continued to record.
