Da Vinci Code Sequel coming!

Sony Pictures has officially set a February 2008 start date for production on Angels & Demons, the Da Vinci Code sequel, which is slated to hit theaters in December 2008.
The quick decision is one of the biggest to transpire amid Hollywood’s current deal-making frenzy due to the looming writers strike.
Tom Hanks is reprising his role as religious conspiracy investigator Robert Langdon, and director Ron Howard, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, and producer Brian Grazer are all back for the second movie adapted from Dan Brown’s mystery novels. Casting is now underway.
Although The Da Vinci Code grossed a relatively disappointing $217.5 million domestically in 2006, it was a smash hit overseas where it banked a jaw-dropping $540.7 mil. Due to the success of that film, Sony greenlit Angels & Demons, whose 2000 book Brown had actually written before 2003’s The Da Vinci Code became an runaway bestseller.

It’s going to be interesting if they plan to bill this as a sequel considering the book Angels and Demons is the prequel to DaVinci Code. Loved both books. Never saw the movie because I can’t even force myself to imagine Tom Hanks in the role.

I hope Angels & Demons is good, and sticks close the book. Hanks was a good Langdon, but he needs to sort out his hair - it was a mess in the Da Vinci Code.

I liked DVC movie. I’ve read both books and am excited for the AAD movie. The movies are never as good as the books, so I try to steer clear of comparing the book to the movie. I think AAD will be a little harder to convert to movie. So I will go and see it when it comes out.
Peace!

Angels and Demons was an amazing book. Way better then DaVinci code, in my opinion. I hope they do it justice

Angels and demons was the first book to come out with that caracter, not the second, why are they calling it a sequel, it should be the prequel!

angels and demons is actually a prequel - it took place years before the da vinci code

I’m glad they didn’t change the cast

Like K-Dog said, “Movie is never as good as the book.” From that perspective Hanks and the studio made a good movie while not copying the book 100%. Hanks will have to play down the confidence in AAD to make Langdon’s charm play to moviegoers. AAD should be a better movie than DVC simply because the studio can make an entertaining, intellegent film without worrying about the political and religious backlash. Loved the book, can’t wait to see the movie.

The D. Code was shit. I live here in Mexico - where maybe 5 people read on a regular basis - and many people loved the movie. Hanks was terrible and they reduced the female character to nothing more than a hot peice of ass following an old man around Paris.

Mirroring what everyone else has said, Angels and Demons is a PREQUEL not a sequel. Da Vinci Code was the sequel. And Angels and Demons is better.

I read Angels and Demons first and loved it, it was fascinating and a real page turner. Then I read Davinci Code and it was like I was reading the same book!! The plot seemed extremely similar and makes me wonder why the second book was so much more of a hit when it seemed like it was just a ripoff of the first. I liked A&D better anyways.

Angels & Demons was an excellent FIRST BOOK! Idiots should read before they open their useless HOLES!

Tom Hanks was terrible in that role! Totally did not fit my imagination when I read both books. They are going to butcher this too, great!

i totally agree Angels and Demons was better and Tom Hanks is nothing at all like you would picture the character!!! they should have cast a semi good looking gut not him

Ridiculous!!! The movie was a horrible piece of trash and although I usually like Hanks, he was miscast in what was a disastrous adaptation of a great book.
