Lawyer: Owen didn’t suffer from an overdose.

Owen Wilson did not suffer a drug overdose on Sunday (Aug. 26) but he was taking anti-depressants, the actor’s attorney tells Access Hollywood.

The actor, who was rushed to hospital after allegedly cutting his wrists in an attempted suicide, did not have his stomach pumped, says the attorney. Wilson was found by brother Luke in his Santa Monica home, and a 911 call report showed it was logged as an “attempted suicide.” Media outlets had speculated that he was also found with an empty bottle of pills beside him, but the attorney said he was not aware of any drugs, other than anti-depressants, being in Wilson’s system at the time of incident.

Wilson is currently recovering at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and has asked people respect his privacy in a statement saying he needs to, “receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.” That wish just got a bit closer to coming true: the Santa Monica City Attorney’s office has announced they will not release the 911 call made by Luke.

“In reaching this decision the City believes that in many instances no person should have to worry about whether placing a call for emergency assistance will automatically make his or her medical request open to public review,” the City Attorney’s office said in a press release late Wednesday. “In balancing the competing interests, the City agencies outweighs the public interest served by disclosure of the emergency 911 call. In situation such as this, the City concludes that the public is best served if medical attention is promptly sought instead of being delayed because of a concern, real or imagined, of public attention, regardless of whether that publicity is sympathetic or not.”

Great! Some things should be kept private. I hope he’s getting the help he needs.

  2. Uglygirl Says:

Sorry Mr. Attorney, I don’t accept the fact that Owen’s wrist-slashing crisis was NOT a suicide attempt! This type of behavior is common with alkies and addicts that are hitting bottom. I hope that Owen recovers!

  3. Ann Says:

If he needs time to “heal”, it probably was a suicide attempt. In any case, he obviously needs some help & I hope he gets it. Slashed writs + pills = suicide attempt.

  4. nic Says:

His attorney is a bit late. The police have already said it wasn’t a drug overdose but that he slit his writs.

Depression is very difficult. I hope he gets help.

  5. Katrina Says:

I really like Owen and hope and pray that he gets everything worked out.
