In other comedians named Amy news, Amy Schumer is not afraid to speak out and speak her mind!
The actress talked to the press at a conference for her new film, Trainwreck, on Friday in Los Angeles. And she says it’s not about men, or conforming, but drawing from personal experience and maintaining authenticity. In the movie (which hits theaters July 17), Schumer plays a serial dater with what some have perceived as having an act-like-a-man-attitude, but she says that’s not the point.
“A lot of people have asked me if I intended to kind of flip the gender roles like I’m playing the guy, and that’s not been my experience at all,” she explained. “This is how I am and how a lot of girls are where the guy ends up being a little more sensitive and more invested. So the scene where I get high and then John [Cena‘s] character looks through my phone, and then instead of comforting him I ask if I can leave – that did happen in my real life.”
And when it came time to shoot a sex scene between Schumer and co-star Bill Hader, it actually might have been Trainwreck director Judd Apatow who was the most uncomfortable.
“Judd was very embarrassed,” Hader said. “He was very shy when we did the real sex scene on the couch. He was like, ‘Okay, so today’s the big day. Okay, you guys it’s gonna be fun,’ and everyone was looking at the ground.”
And in general, Amy doesn’t like to conform- she likes to be herself and thinks her work also speaks to that.
“It’s very therapeutic for me to be like, ‘Yes, I’m not going to look like a malnourished bird,’ and I like speaking to that, as well as speaking to my work and what I’m doing,”
I agree. I think Amy’s super unique and support all the really smart comedy she does. Will you see Trainwreck?
