Melissa McCarthy Is Not Gonna Stand For Any Body-Shaming

PICS: 'Tammy' premieres in Los Angeles

Melissa McCarthy wants body-shamers to know that sexism, bigotry and bias is NOT cool in her book.

On Wednesday, the star appeared on Ellen DeGeneres‘ show to promote her upcoming comedy, Spy. But more than promote, the actress wanted to share a particularly poignant story. During the 2014 Toronto Film Festival, McCarthy went head to head with a critic who made incredibly sexist comments about the Emmy winner’s appearance in a previous film, and decided to do some SCHOOLIN.’

She stated:

“I said, ‘You know, would you do that to a man? John C. Riley played a really broken down character and looked terrible.’

I said, ‘I put a lot of time and effort into having her completely not look like she cared about herself. That was part of how I felt she felt on the inside. Would you ever say that to a man?’ And he goes, ‘Well, you really looked bad.’ And then I said, ‘I hope…do you have children? And he said, ‘I do.’ And I said, ‘I hope you don’t have a daughter.”

“When I said, ‘If she comes home and someone says you can’t have a job because you’re unattractive,’ are you gonna say, ‘That’s right?’

And he took that in his heart and he was like, ‘No, I would never want that to happen. I would never in a million years want that to happen.'”

Yeah, NOBODY wants that to happen. So let’s cut it out with the double standards. I know it’s prevalent (and especially because I’m a pop culture writer- I should know, I often poke fun for entertainment purposes), but in all seriousness, women and men needs much more equality in the industry and beyond. You dig? I DO.

Selena Gomez Slams Bodyshamers

Screen Shot 2015-05-01 at 1.10.40 PM

I wanna send y’all off for the weekend with a super sexy pic of Selena Gomez- and a call to arms against bodyshamers!

The “Come & Get It” singer totally dissed her haters on insta yesterday, when this shot was commented on by a dude who criticized Selena for her weight. And little Selena did NOT hold back! Said the star:

“You’re disgusting. IM IN the business and I could care less about what ‘they’ or you say I should look like,” she allegedly wrote. “I don’t need to do anything other than love myself, take care of my work, fans, family and friends.”

She added: “And I do work out. It’s not your place to tell anyone what they should or should not do.”

Agreeeeeeed!  Also, Selena looks absolutely GORGEOUS in this pic- I don’t know who would shame that adorable lil lady.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, y’all!

Kourtney Kardashian’s Okay In My Book

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 9.46.00 AM

Yes, this picture on instagram happened.  But WHY?

Well, Kourtney Kardashian recently posted an Instagram photo of her scale, which read 116 lbs. roughly four months after she gave birth to her son, Reign Aston. Of course, critics were all up in arms about her weight, judging her for her low number. Thankfully, the star shut down critics in a totally sane way.

“I’m 5 feet tall, so everyone relax. I’m on a workout kick, trying to bring some Monday motivation,” she captioned the #fitspirational photo.

While the reality star has slimmed down significantly since her son was born in December, she’s had a humorous approach to her post-baby fitness, detailed by this fun photo!

Heart you, KK.  Keep up the good work!

Khloe Kardashian: May Cosmo Body Cover Girl

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 8.42.08 AM

Geez, can you even believe this is Khloe Kardashian?

The reality star got super glammed (and looks mega skinny- thanks photoshop) on the cover and inside Cosmo Body’s new issue. In it, she talks about her workouts but also what motivates her to keep a positive body image.

On people’s perception of her weight: “Now on my Instagram page people comment saying ‘I liked you better when you were bigger’ and I think, ‘Thank God I don’t live my life for other people because I’d be in a constant tug of war,” she told us. Instead she’s got gradually healthier and fitter over recent years on her own terms, for her own reasons.”

On when she started really hitting the gym: “When me and Lamar were having issues, I decided to channel my energy into working out…if I went out with my girlfriends I would be hounded by paparazzi and made to feel more humiliated. The gym was my only refuge. I could put music on and dance around with my girlfriends and be silly.”

On being unhealthy: “I have never felt ‘fat’ I just didn’t realise how unhealthy I was until I look back at pictures. In the moment I felt so beautiful and I remember walking down red carpets with my make-up done in a little sparkly dress and I thought I was so cute. I had all this confidence.”
