Zooey Deschanel Gets Her Hair Done

Zooey Deschanel Visits A Hair Salon

New Girl star and the ‘she’ in the band, ‘She and Him,’ was spotted leaving a hair salon in Beverly Hills.  The spunky actress/singer just finished filming Barry Levinson’s Rock the Kasbah, which she stars in alongside Kate Hudson, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Danny McBride, and Scott Caan.  The comedy is about a washed-up music producer who finds a young singer in Afghanistan.  Amazing cast.

Don’t Ask Zooey Deschanel If She Wants to Have Kids!

FOX 2014 Programming Presentation

New Girl actress, and half of the musical duo She & Him, Zooey Deschanel really hates it when people ask her if she wants to have kids.  She is featured in the August InStyle and sheds a little light on why she dislikes the question.

“When I was married, that was the first thing people wanted to know.  Like every woman is dying to give birth!  I don’t think so.”

She notes, “Nobody asks a guy that. And you go into a supermarket and every tabloid is like, ‘Pregnant and Alone!’ Stuck in this 1950s ideal of how a woman should live her life. That’s not something that defines me at all.’”

Deschanel was married to Ben Gibbard, who is part of the band Death Cab for Cutie, for a few years before splitting up in 2012.  She is now dating screenwriter Jamie Linden.

I was a big fan of New Girl the first season, but last season was terrible.  Schmidt was my favorite character and they made him not so super…

In other news- I’m a HUGE fan of She & Him, her duo with M. Ward.  They have released 4 albums through Merge Records, but just last week signed a big deal with Columbia Records and will be releasing a new album later this year under the Sony label.  Big news for them, but I hope the big label doesn’t ruin the sound of their music.  It’s perfection.

Zooey Deschanel in GLAMOUR; Talks Body Image!

This month,  actress Zooey Deschanel graces the February 2013 cover of Glamour magazine, looking more glamorous than her usual “indie/dorky” self, and we love it!

The 33-year-old star opens up about transitioning  to TV with her hit show “New Girl” has given her more exciting opportunities she didn’t find in film. Deschanel explained that she was fine with being a “supporting actress,” not an “A-list actress,” (which WE don’t think is true), but that television has given her more cred (including a producing credit on “New Girl,” hey yo!).

She didn’t have a lot to say about her divorce from Death Cab For Cutie’s frontman Ben Gibbard, but she did have a lot to say about being thin- and how actresses have gotten so, so slender over the course of her career.  Though Zooey herself doesn’t feel the pressure to look a certain way, she says actresses have “definitely gotten thinner over the course of [her] lifetime.”

“Women I admired growing up— Debra Winger, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep—were all beautiful and thin, but not too thin. There are a lot of actresses who are unhealthy-skinny—much, much too skinny,” she told Glamour.

“I’m a very small person, and if I lost 15 pounds, I’d look like them; it’s scary. For young girls, what does that say? You need to look this way to be successful? That’s not true. You do not need to look or be anorexic to be successful in Hollywood. The range of what’s acceptable is larger than what people believe,” she said.

I guess…but you still only admired people who were beautiful and thin, Miss D!  Come on.  Another thing she’s been under fire for is her “look,” which is often called  self-infantilizing. To this, Zooey says:

“I’m just being myself. There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can’t be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f–king feminist and wear a f–king Peter Pan collar. So f–king what?”

I’m not sure in what universe a Peter Pan collar is “feminine,” but I hope you put some action behind those words, Zooey!  Viva la Revolucion!

Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and more at the Billboard Music Awards!

Katy Perry won a major award last night at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, NV. She picked up the Spotlight Award for matching Michael Jackson’s record five No. 1 singles off one album.

Teenage Dream spun off the No. 1 Hot 100 hits “California Gurls” (featuring Snoop Dogg), “Teenage Dream,” “E.T.” (featuring Kanye West), “Firework” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” The singer nabbed yet another No. 1 this year, with “Part of Me,” the first single off the special edition album Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.

Perry also performed her new single, ‘Wide Awake’ on the BBMA stage. The song was written for her upcoming 3D film, Katy Perry: Part of Me.

Taylor Swift won Billboard’s Woman of the Year, and was presented with her award by Zooey Deschanel.

Billboard also honored the late Whitney Houston, with a tribute performed by John Legend and Jordin Sparks. Jordin starred alongside Whitney in the singer’s last film, “Sparkle”. Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, accepted the Billboard Millennium Award on her mother’s behalf.

“I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all,” she said. “Not just when it was good, but when it was bad too … Thank you so much for showing that much love, because she deserved it.”

There was another tribute last night, and that was performed by Natasha Bedingfield. The singer paid tribute to Donna Summer, who past away from cancer last week.

On a lighter note, Alicia Keys honored Stevie Wonder with the Billboard Icon Award. The duo performed a medley of Wonder’s hits, “Higher Ground” and “Overjoyed.” But before getting off the stage, the pair had one more surprise in store. With a little encouragement from Wonder, who recently celebrated his 62nd birthday and had one wish for the soulful songstress, Keys belted out the chorus of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind.”
