Neil Patrick Harris Read Those Negative Oscar Reviews And Shares His Side

52nd New York Film Festival Opening Night - 'Gone Girl' Premiere

Neil Patrick Harris took on the crazy task of hosting the Oscars this year.  The Oscars aren’t known for being all that “exciting” to begin with, so the odds were already stacked against him.  He tried the best he could and  received mixed reviews.  He talked to the Huffington Post about the experience and shares whether he’d try to tackle it again.

Would he do it again?  “I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it.  It’s a beast. It was fun to check off the list, but for the amount of time spent and the understandable opinionated response, I don’t know that it’s a delightful balance to do every year or even again.”

What he thought of the negative feedback:   “I didn’t keep up with it obsessively, but it was interesting to see just what people thought landed and didn’t.  It’s so difficult for one who’s simply watching the show to realize just how much time and concession and compromise and explanation has gone into almost every single thing. Every joke. Wording of joke. Placement of joke. Canceling of joke. Embellishment for just one line. And I’m not saying that to defend everything I said as if it was the absolute best choice, but it’s also an award show, and you’re powering through 14 acts filled with 20 plus awards. So my job was to try and keep things as light and specific to this year’s set of films as possible. And if people are critical of that, it’s a big giant platform, so I would assume that they would be.”

What did you think of Neil’s hosting?  I think the writers could’ve given him some better material, but he was far from the worst host (looking at you, James Franco).  Who do you think should try it next year?

Anne Hathaway Offers Neil Patrick Harris Oscar Hosting Advice

Anne Hathaway Films 'Song One' In NYC

Hosting the oscars might’ve been one of Anne Hathaway‘s most embarrassing moments, but the 2011 show has kinda made her…and expert?

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Hathaway had some solid advice for this year’s host, Neil Patrick Harris: “Do the opposite of what I did, and you’ll be fine.”

Two years ago, the actress also gave advice to 2013 Oscars host Seth MacFarlane, saying, “Have a plan. Have several.” Which is also pretty solid, though, we’re all PRETTY SURE  Harris will be okay- he’s previously hosted the Tonys and Emmys, so Oscars should be just fiiiine. Hathaway also thinks this, saying, “He’ll be great. He’s a natural host.” We agree!

One of the tabloids better jump on this one so that we can see some good pictures of the ceremony and everything else. I wonder if little Harper was the flower girl and Gideon the ring bearer? We need pictures, people…STAT!!

How Neil Patrick Harris ‘Re-Fell’ in Love with David Burtka

68th Annual Tony Awards

Neil Patrick Harris is very frank about how his relationship has changed with his fiancé, David Burtka, over the years, admitting that the honeymoon stage has definitely ended – as they all do.  That doesn’t spell the end of a relationship however, and for them, starting a family allowed them to ‘re-fall’ in love.

“Having kids was one of those great moments for me. Watching David become another level of person, mastering this other domain, made me look at him with a whole other set of appreciative eyes. That made me re-fall in love with him.”

The two have 3 1/2 year-old twins, Harper Grace and Gideon Scott.

“That’s another important thing to realize. Everyone falls out of love with everything. You fall out of love with your house. You fall out of love with your job. You just have to figure out ways to keep [the love] alive.”

Harris is currently starring in Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Itch – which he received a Tony for.  He will also be in the highly anticipated film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl which will be in theaters in October.
