Russell Brand has signed on to host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards!

The 36-year-old has hosted before, for the MTV Music Video Awards in 2008 and 2009. “This MTV Movie Awards will be more impressive than `The Avengers,’ and you won’t have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out,” Brand said Thursday.

Brand has a new movie coming out, ‘Rock of Ages’, which hits theaters next month. This will be his first time hosting the movie awards.

Executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic, who worked with Brand on the VMAs, calls the actor-comedian “such a brilliant talent.”

“He brings the funny but he also has that rock `n’ roll aesthetic,” he said.

The top contenders at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards are “The Hunger Games” and “Bridesmaids,” which have eight nominations each, including bids for best cast, breakthrough performance and movie of the year. The show also includes offbeat categories such as best kiss, best fight, and best on-screen dirtbag. Fans can select the winners by casting votes online.

Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Mark Wahlberg are among the stars set to appear at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, which will be presented June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif., and broadcast live on MTV.

In other Russell news, I’ve been seeing more and more reports lately that he really regrets dumping ex-wife Katy Perry, and some sources claim he sees it as the “biggest mistake of his life”.

In this week’s issue, the Italian tabloid alleges that Brand sent his ex-wife an emotional email in the hopes of reconciling. According to the Daily Mail,Brand told Perry that divorcing after 14 months of marriage was a “mistake.”

So what triggered Brand’s reported change of heart? Seeing photos of the 27-year-old popstar cozying up to “Florence and the Machine” gutarist Robert Ackroyd at last month’s Coachella Music Festival, an unnamed source told the tabloid.

Brand, 36, filed for divorce in December 2011, just 14 months after he wed the singer.

Even if he does think it was the biggest mistake of his life, I hope he doesn’t even go there. Not that I actually know what happened, but he sure came off like a creep during the whole thing. I mean c’mon, Katy’s song “Piece of Me” kind of sums the whole thing up, doesn’t it?

Looks like Katy Perry’s got a new man … and he’s a pretty hot musician!

Perry, who filed for divorce from Russell Brand in December, was seen locking lips and sharing some serious PDA at Coachella last weekend with Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd.

Though Perry was briefly linked to model Baptiste Giabiconi, it looks pretty serious with Robert in the photos above — where she’s seen cuddling and kissing the tattooed dude.

Sources close to Katy Perry say that she misses ex-husband Russell Brand!

“Katy’s been trying to get him back!” a friend tells  Us Weekly of “Part of Me” singer, 27. “She’s a lost soul right now.”

What may have stirred up this nostalgia? In early April,  Perry took a solo trip to India, the same country where she wed Brand, 36, in a lavish 2010 ceremony.  That may have something to do with it, but I’m sure the series of Brand’s flings post-divorce also made her miss being his #1.

Still, a reconciliation seems like a long shot.  “Right now, Katy and Russell are trying to get to the point where they can at least be friends,” says a friend of Perry’s.

Katy Perry was one of Coachella’s biggest stars this past weekend, and by the looks of this new video, the singer was having a very good time!

Debuting her new dark purple hair, and wearing a dress she described as “sponsored by courtney love, virgin suicides & fern gully” the singer lip-synched Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit “Call Me Maybe”.

The 27-year-old singer partied poolside with her friends and videotaped themselves goofing around to the teeny-bopper tune, then uploaded it on YouTube. Jepsen was so excited Perry enjoying her song. “Well… @KatyPerry I have to say that you made my night!” she tweeted on Tuesday.

Katy isn’t the only celebrity lip-synching “Call Me Maybe”. Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale made their own video last month. (CUTE!) Watch that video below!

Jepsen’s song is currently sitting at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, just below Katy Perry’s “Part Of Me.”

Katy Perry is Teen Vogue’s May cover girl. In the interview, Katy opens up about her new #1 hit “Part of Me”. She’s still sticking to the story that it’s not about Russell Brand, but I’m not buying it for a second.

She also talks about acting – and she reveals she was almost in ‘The Help’. Thank the Lord that didn’t happen! What a mess!

Was she excited about her 7th #1? “Of course! I’m not like, “Ugh, number one again.” It’s funny, though–my label gets so caught up in the statistics, just because they’re excited. But for me, I don’t need to grind it into anyone’s head that I’m popular. If you like my music, great, and if you don’t, whatever. I’m going to keep making it either way. This does feel a bit like the record that never ends. But I wanted to release The Complete Confection for the hard-core fan who wants everything: three new songs, the remixes, and it’s all in a cute little package.”

On acting: “There was a time when I was going to be involved in The Help–just a small part, I wasn’t going to be Emma Stone or anything–but I couldn’t because the shooting schedule conflicted with the release of my record. And I was upset about that; I knew it was going to be an important film. Not that I need to do drama first, but I do want to do something that makes a strong impression. You don’t really get off the hook being a musician first … I feel like the stakes are really high.”

On glamour: “I don’t like to take fashion too seriously. I love it, and I am so grateful when big brands want to associate with me, but mostly I just want to take chances and have fun and truly live. And sometimes that means wearing some ridiculous, cat-inspired outfit rather than whatever happens to be in this season.”

Her style influences: “I love Agyness Deyn, Chloë Sevigny, Daphne Guinness, Natalie Wood, Judy Jetson, and Wonder Woman. They have the ability to adapt and evolve and change. Like, I’m still doing the pinup thing, but now when I do it, I want to be the pinup of the future, like Rachael in Blade Runner. But I’ve always been quirky–it probably started when I was nine years old, and my father used to wake me up at seven every Saturday morning to take me to garage sales. I couldn’t afford the clothes that the other girls at school were wearing, so instead I looked for things that were unique to me.”

On fame: “I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do. It’s quite a delicate creature– it’s a wild animal of sorts. It can love you, and then it can attack you. I still want to be as approachable and relatable as possible–when I meet fans and they’re crying, I’ll say, ‘Calm down, there’s nothing to cry about. I’m not going to bite you or attack you or grant you three wishes. Let’s just hang out and have a good time.’ But really, I stopped focusing on what other people think a while ago. If you try to be everything to everyone, you’ll only end up completely confused.”

Katy Perry was one of the many celebrities that attended the Kids Choice Awards over the weekend. She wore this strange green getup, which in my opinion is quite hideous. Maybe she was trying to look like she was wearing slime?

Rumor has it, Katy Perry is currently dating the highest-paid male model in the world, Baptiste Giabiconi. Here are pictures of Katy and Baptiste arriving at the Montana Club in Paris, France together last night.

You may recognize Baptiste from Chanel’s ads, he’s Karl Lagerfeld’s muse. Anyway, the two have been spending a lot of time together in Paris, and naturally, this means they’re dating!

In other Katy news, she’s getting a lot of flack today for “insulting” Beyonce and Shakira while being interviewed on BBC Radio 1.

Katy Perry made a subtle dig at fellow pop superstar Beyonce during a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 (via PopDust).

Perry, 27, is in the midst of planning a duet with her BFF Rihanna. “We’ve collaborated on a lot of things, but just not songs yet,” the “Part of Me” singer said. “It’s one of those things that’s got so much build up that we have to deliver.”

And Perry she knows just what she doesn’t want the song to sound like. “I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song ‘Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,’” she said of a classic female empowerment tune from 1985. “Not ‘Beautiful Liar.’”

“Beautiful Liar” would be Beyonce’s smash 2007 collaboration with Shakira, which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Perry added of her not-yet-record Rihanna ditty: “How disappointed would you be if that song came out and it’s no good? Sometimes you have to wait for greatness.”
