The Sci-Fi channel reimagined The Wizard of Oz in more ways than one with the making of Tin Man. The mini series was a story of D.G. (Dorothy) who gets swept up by a tornado and taken back to the O.Z. (outer zone) where she is in search of the emerald to save the O.Z. from her sister Azkadillia and find her mother.
The tin man is an officer for Central City and he reminds us to have a heart. The zipperhead, Ambrose, has lost his brain due to Azkadillia having it removed to power her super machine. The lion is a clairvoyant of sorts, and Toto is an African American man who shape-shifts from dog to man.
I’m not going to give away the ending, but I liked it and the twist that they put on the entire storyline. It was definitely different.
What did you think?

It ain’t your mom and dad’s “The Wizard of Oz”, that’s for sure. It’s the Sci Fi Channel’s version of “Oz”, an original mini-series called “Tin Man”, starring Kathleen Robertson and Zooey Deschanel. Here’s the plot: The miniseries centers on DG (Deschanel), a young woman plucked from her humdrum life and thrust into The Outer Zone (the O.Z.), a fantastical realm filled with wonder, but oppressed by dark magic. DG discovers her true identity, battles evil winged monkey-bats and attempts to fulfill her destiny. Her perilous journey begins on the fabled Old Road that leads to a wizard known as the Mystic Man. Along the way, she is joined by “Glitch,” an odd man missing half his brain; “Raw,” a quietly powerful wolverine-like creature longing for inner courage; and “Cain,” a heroic former policeman (known in the O.Z. as a “Tin Man”), who is seeking vengeance for his scarred heart. Ultimately, DG’s destiny leads her to a showdown with the wicked sorceress Azkadellia (Robertson), whose ties to DG are closer than anyone could have imagined.”

Zooey Deschanel is starring opposite Jim Carrey in “Yes Man” for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow. Peyton Reed is directing, with David Heyman and Richard Zanuck producing.
Based on British author Danny Wallace’s memoir, the story follows a man (Carrey) who decides to change his life by saying yes to everything that comes his way, leading him on a series of unexpected comedic adventures that turn his life upside down.
Deschanel plays the romantic female lead, a woman Carrey meets on his journeys.
Bradley Cooper already has been cast as Carrey’s best friend.
Deschanel recently wrapped shooting M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening,” in which she stars opposite Mark Wahlberg. She next appears on the Sci Fi Channel miniseries “Tin Man.” Her credits include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Surf’s Up” and “Bridge to Terabithia.”

Zooey Deschanel has been cast as the lead in SCI FI Channel’s upcoming six-hour miniseries ‘Tin Man’ (working title) from RHI Entertainment. The wildly re-imagined fantasy take on Frank Baum’s classic book, The Wizard of Oz, is slated to begin production next month in Vancouver and will premiere in December.
Deschanel will take on the role of DG, a young woman plucked from her humdrum life and thrust into The Outer Zone (the O.Z.) a fantastical realm rife with wonder, but oppressed by dark magic. She joins Alan Cumming (previously announced), who plays “Glitch,” one of a motley assortment of colorful characters trapped in the O.Z.
A sometimes psychedelic, often twisted and always outrageous take on the book, SCI FI’s ‘Tin Man’ follows DG on the adventure of a lifetime. Plunged headlong into another world, DG must discover her true identity, battle evil winged-monkey-bats, and attempt to fulfill her destiny. Her perilous journey begins on the fabled Old Road that leads to a wizard known as the Mystic Man. Along the way, she is joined by a decidedly strange trio of companions “Glitch,” an odd man missing half his brain; “Raw,” a quietly powerful wolverine-like creature longing for inner courage, and “Cain,” a heroic former policeman (known in the O.Z. as Tin Men, for their tin badges) seeking vengeance for his scarred heart. Ultimately, DG’s destiny leads her to an emotional and terrifying showdown with the scintillatingly wicked sorceress Azkadellia, whose ties to DG are closer than anyone could have imagined. DG’s life, as well as the very future of the O.Z., hangs in the balance.
Absolutely PERFECT casting, if you ask me.

Zooey has been cast in the six-hour miniseries The Tin Man, the Sci Fi Channel’s twist on The Wizard of Oz. She’ll play a Dorothy-like character who gets sucked into the O.Z. — the Outer Zone, that is — where dark magic rules. Also cast: Alan Cumming as the Scarecrow-esque character.
