President Obama isn’t too busy to send Zooey Deschanel a birthday card.

I’m so proud that the president of this great nation has the time to send actresses like Zooey Deschanel birthday letters. On Tuesday, New Girl star Zooey Deschanel, 32, tweeted that she was “so excited” to receive a birthday letter from the President of the United States, 50.

“As you celebrate this special occasion with your family and friends, please know I am grateful for all you have done to encourage and support young women who are making a difference across our country,” Barack wrote. “I hope your day is filled with love and laughter, and I wish you all the best for good health and happiness in the year ahead.”

Deschanel, who shares a birthday with White, 90, and First Lady Michelle Obama, 48, also received well-wishes from her favorite author, Judy Blume, 73.

Though Barack couldn’t attend the actress’ party, Deschanel jokingly tweeted: “It’s okay. I get it. I would go to Michelle Obama’s birthday instead of mine, too.”

Zooey Deschanel Files for Divorce

It must be the season for divorces, because after separating on October 31, 2011, cutesy actress Zooey Deschanel has filed for divorce from her Death Cab for Cutie husband Ben Gibbard.

The “New Girl” star filed the divorce docs in L.A. County Superior Court on December 27 — blaming the split on “irreconcilable differences.”

The pair married back in 2009 and have no kids.

Zooey Deschanel and her husband SPLIT!

After only two years of marriage, Zooey Deschanel and husband Ben Gibbard have separated, a rep confirms to Us Weekly.

That seems like a lifetime compared to Kim and Kris!

“It was mutual and amicable,” a source adds. “There was no third party involved.”

The New Girl actress, 31, and Death Cab for Cutie frontman, 35, got married near Seattle, Wash. in late September 2009.

In Deschanel’s September cover story in New York magazine, Gibbard gushed about meeting and pursuing the star, who also fronts the band She and Him. “I’d seen her movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful,” Gibbard explained.

When their mutual music manager finally introduced them three years ago, “I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me.”

Deschanel told iVillage that it was “definitely hard” being apart from her indie rocker guy when he was away on tour. “He’s really good at calling. He’s probably better than I am. He’s a very conscientious person.”

What surprised her most about marriage life? “You can’t expect to make no effort. You still have to make the effort and be kind and understanding. It sort of just solidifies your commitment.”

25 things you didn’t know about Zooey Deschanel, by Zooey Deschanel.

I love Zooey Deschanel. I’m not a huge lover of her new show on Fox, but fans of the show say it is getting better.

Zooey, 31, took part in US Weekly’s “25 Things You Don’t Know About…” feature, and here you go, in her own words!

1. I accidentally entered a beauty pageant.

3. I took three years off from acting and toured with my band, She & Him.

6. I drove my mom’s old Volvo until just a few years ago.
7. I had a party at the American Girl store — recently.
8. I love coffee. I mean, I really love coffee.
9. I am always early to work but sometimes late to other things.
10. I started a comedy website for females, with my friends Sophia and Molly, called HelloGiggles.
11. I know This is Spinal Tap by heart.
12. I am really competitive at board games.
13. I talk to my mom every day.
14. I love work more than vacations.
15. I love pictures of people’s dogs.
16. I am pretty crafty. I like to bake.
17. I hate papaya.

Zooey Deschanel on the set of ‘New Girl’ in Los Angeles

The adorable Zooey Deschanel has been busy these days filming her new sitcom, New Girl, airing Tuesdays on FOX. Yesterday, the quirky actress was spotted filming episodes of the scripted comedy in L.A.

Although Zooey’s show received good reviews after its premiere last month, the network has decided to hold off on new episodes until November due to conflicts with MLB playoffs and the The X Factor.

I’ve watched the first two episodes of ‘New Girl’, and I didn’t like it! I love Zooey, so I was really bummed that I don’t like her show. I just find it unfunny. Not a fan.

Have you seen it? What do you think?

Zooey Deschanel’s Husband, Ben Gibbard, Speak on Getting Sober

Actress Zooey Deschanel‘s husband Ben Gibbard, frontman for the famous indie rock band Death Cab For Cutie, recently sat down with Spin magazine to talk about how he’s completely turned his life around in the last three years by getting clean and sober.

Ben spoke of the incident in Big Sur, Calif., that made him stop and realize that his life was spiraling out of control. After a night out getting a beer with a friend turned into “five beers and five shots,” he said:

“That’s it. I’m done. I’ve lost the ability to control this.”

Both writing and his new hobby of long distance running is the way he’s been able to channel his energy, saying:

“Writing is such a solitary act. You spend hours alone, only with your thoughts, and you torture yourself. It’s a tendency of many writers to temper the self-destructive act of writing with other self-destructive acts. I certainly was one of those people for a long time.”

“Once you realize that a positive act helps to balance out the negative act of being a writer, you become a more balanced person emotionally.”

Good for him!
