Warner Brothers announced yesterday that Diane Lane has been cast in the upcoming Christopher Nolan-produced, Zach Snyder-directed Superman. She’ll play Martha Kent, the Kansas farmer who finds Superman as a baby, and raises him as her own.
Superman will be played by ‘The Tudors’ actor Henry Cavill.
Here’s the press release:
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Oscar®-nominated actress Diane Lane will play Martha Kent, the only mother Clark Kent has ever known, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder.
Snyder stated, “This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”
Lane will star with Henry Cavill, who was recently announced as the new Clark Kent/Superman.

I love this news! I’m such a huge Kevin Costner fan, it’s not even funny. According to Movie Web, it was rumored for a while that Kevin would have a role in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot. Now a source close to production is spilling the secrets on Kevin’s role in the new film!
If the source is correct, Kevin Costner will portray Clark Kent’s adoptive human earth father Jonathan “Pa” Kent, the man who finds baby Kal-El and raises him to become the superhero disguised as a mild mannered newspaper reporter.
Kevin Costner will be following in the footsteps of Glenn Ford, who played Pa in the original 1978 big screen version of Superman.
Look for this casting rumor to be confirmed in the next few days.
Superman comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Henry Cavill. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Warners Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially announced that Henry Cavill has been cast as the man of steel in the new Superman movie.
Cavill, 27, is best known for his role as of Charles Brandon on the Showtime series The Tudors. His latest film—aptly titled for the budding superhero—is Immortals, slated for release this fall.
Zack Snyder, who will be directing the Super reboot, says in a statement: “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
Also rumored to be on the consideration list for the role of Clark Kent was Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and True Blood’s Joe Manganiello. Superman: Man of Steel is slated for release in December 2012.
What do you think about their choice? Last week it was rumored that Joe Manganiello was going to be the new Superman, and I loved that idea! But he def has a Superman look to him. I can see it!

Christopher Nolan (‘Inception’) and Zack Snyder (’300) have teamed up to remake the ‘Superman’ franchise, and they’re currently on the hunt for a new man of steel.
According the LA Times, that man may be ‘True Blood’ werewolf Joe Manganiello.
The actor spoke to Extra, saying, “It’s out there in the ether, we’ll see. I would be honored, I love Zack Snyder, I love Christopher Nolan, I’m a huge fan of both of them.”
Earlier, Jon Hamm had been thought to be under consideration for the role, but said at the Golden Globes that he was too old for the part.
Um, I don’t watch ‘True Blood’ – but by the looks of that picture – it’s time for me to start.

The man behind 300 and Watchmen has been chosen as the director of the upcoming Superman reboot!
Beating out other directors like Guillermo Del Toro, Robert Zemeckis, Darren Aronofsky, and Tony Scott, Zack Synder has been chosen for the high-profile project. No pressure there!
Not much is known about the new movie, but Christopher Nolan has read the script, and called it “incredibly exciting”. Nolan will be producing the movie. (Love him!)
According to Nolan, plans for the Superman reboot originated when he and Goyer stalled while discussing the sequel to “The Dark Knight.”
“It was the first time I had been able to conceive of how you would address Superman in a modern context,” he told Empire Magazine in June. “I thought it was a very exciting idea.”
If the report regarding Snyder proves true, it could mean drastic changes in the filmmaker’s busy calendar, which includes next year’s effects-heavy action film “Sucker Punch,” as well as the “300″ spinoff “Xerxes.” With at least eight different projects in the next two years currently attached to his name, the filmmaker could need to shift some films around to make room for mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent’s iconic alter ego.
Of course, with a director attached, the next step is finding a suitable actor to play the Man of Steel. Back in June, we asked Nolan whether he was after an unknown actor to play Superman instead of a familiar face.
“I haven’t even thought about it, to be honest,” he told MTV News at the time.
I love Superman! Can’t wait to see what he comes up with!
