Oh my gosh, did I ever love Footloose! I have watched it probably a hundred times… SO GOOD! What do you think of Zac Efron starring in the remake? (I think it’s perfect casting!)
After watching Zac Efron and director Kenny Ortega deliver a $42 million opening weekend for “High School Musical 3,” Paramount Pictures has fast-tracked “Footloose,” hoping to get the film ready for Efron and Ortega to start production next spring.
Unlike “HSM3,” “Footloose” will aim for an older teen and adult demo. Efron is just about set in a deal that will pay him a mid-seven-figure salary and give him script approval.
While Sollett rewrites the Hartmere script, the studio is working on new songs that will complement some of the memorable original tunes. Though the Herb Ross-directed film wasn’t a musical, screenwriter Dean Pitchford wrote lyrics for songs that included the Kenny Loggins title song as well as “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “Almost Paradise” and “Holding Out for a Hero.” At least some of those tunes are expected to be in the new movie.
“Footloose” spawned one of the biggest-selling soundtracks of its era and made a star of Kevin Bacon.
High School Musical 3: Senior Year isn’t due in theaters until Oct. 24, but there’s already buzz about High School Musical 4.
Zac Efron has said High School Musical 3 would be it for him but that if the money were right, he’d probably do it, an insider tells Life & Style, who adds that the actor won’t come cheaply: “He’s thinking in the $8 million to $10 million range. But it depends on how the movie opens and how desperately they want him back.” And if Zac signs on, the rest of the cast will follow.
They’ve been dating for more than a year, but Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens proved their romance is hotter than ever during an ultra-romantic vacation on the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos.
The High School Musical sweethearts escaped to the island paradise on July 6, and stayed at the exclusive, secluded Amanyara Resort on Malcolm’s Road Beach, where villas go for up to $8,000 a night. “They looked like a happy young couple,” says a witness who saw the pair “laughing all the time” and frolicking on the hotel’s beach during their week-long stay.
Although Zac, 20, and Vanessa, 19, went away together to be alone, they were friendly to the other tourists who recognized them, including a bunch of young HSM fans. “They were nice to all of the kids who approached them,” a fellow vacationer reveals. “They were a very gracious couple.”
