Veteran actor William Shatner is convinced he will not be remembered after his death - because his acting feats are no comparison to those of Hollywood’s biggest legends.
The 77-year-old gained a cult following for his role as Captain Kirk in 1970s futuristic series Star Trek, but insists the entertainment industry is so fickle, his award-winning performances won’t be enough to keep his memory alive.
He says, “I’m not going to be remembered any more than anyone else. Maybe on the day there will be a little more fuss than, say, some guy in Poughkeepsie (New York). Fame and remembrance are so fleeting. None of us is remembered. Some of the great names I grew up with, five years after they were dead, no one remembered them. No matter what age you are, you are liable to die. But the older you get, the odds go up that it’s going to be very soon. It’s not going to be very long. But I’m having such a good time with the world that I live in, I don’t want to go anywhere.”

Legendary Captain Kirk actor William Shatner has denied reports that he nearly died while undergoing routine hip replacement surgery. A source at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center said that his heart was beating erratically and that he might die on the table.
He said on his official website Monday, “I’m in absolute perfect health, I’ve never felt better in my life. Somebody made up an absolutely foolish story.”
Good to hear it William!

The 77-year-old Captain Kirk, William Shatner, has reportedly developed heart complications on the operating table following his procedure for a hip replacement on January 25th.
“The hip replacement surgery went fine,” the source said. “But William’s heart started beating erratically. For a few seconds, it looked like he might die on the table.”
He was quickly stabilized, but “he was pretty shook up when they told him about the heart complication,” the source said.
“Until now he’s had no real medical problems, but he’s overweight and out of shape, so hearing he had a heart problem scared the hell out of him.”
Now recovering at home, “William feels fine and he’s already walking,” the source said. “William said he’s going to drop some weight and start taking better care of himself.”

Actor William Shatner is furious producers of the new Star Trek movie failed to offer him a role. Shatner, who played Captain James Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series and movies, is desperate for a part in the new version, directed by J.J. Abrams.
And the 76-year-old is stunned he has not been offered a lead role in the upcoming film.
He tells Extra, “How could you not put one of the founding figures into a movie that was being resurrected? That doesn’t make good business sense to me! I’ve become even more popular than I was playing Captain Kirk. I’m good box office and I get publicity… But, they are going in a different direction and it’ll be a wonderful film.”
Shatner’s Star Trek sidekick Leonard Nimoy will be the only original cast member on board for the prequel - he’ll reprise his role as Mr. Spock in portions of the film.
