Will Smith has credited his sex obsession with keeping him away from drugs as a teenager.

The 39-year-old star has maintained his aversion to alcohol and drugs throughout his life, and he steered clear of addictions in his younger days by spending every waking moment fantasizing about women.

He says, “Through my teenage years I was too focused on sex to even think about any other vices. I’m much the same now. No drugs and only the occasional drink.”

ET spoke exclusively to Tom Cruise today at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood where his good friend Will Smith’s hand and foot prints were immortalized in cement. Cruise was in attendance to show support for Smith and spoke to ET about their relationship, “I feel honored to know him and his family. When I get around him I feel inspired. We push each other and we need that. We share that same level of reality and commitment that we have to our craft and to our family. Its fun. Wherever Will Smith is, that’s where the party is!” Cruise tells ET he is even a fan of Smith’s music, “He is an extraordinary artist. When I was doing Born on the 4th of July, his music got me through that picture.”

On if Smith could beat his wife Katie Holmes in a marathon, Cruise laughs, “Kate is fast! I said to Will, ’she ran a marathon, we’ve got to see if we can’t run a marathon. She did it!’ The day after she ran the marathon I was at the hotel and got in the elevator drenched in sweat and I smelled… I said, ‘Listen, when your wife runs a marathon, you’ve got to get on the treadmill the next day!’”

I can’t wait to see this movie. I love Will Smith, he’s such a good actor.

Will Smith has already made a star out of one of his children – son Jaden, 9, who costarred in 2006’s The Pursuit of Happyness. Now, the acting bug has bitten again in the family.

Smith’s daughter Willow, 7, makes her onscreen debut in his sci-fi thriller I Am Legend, due in theaters Dec. 14.

“She has a drive,” Smith tells PEOPLE. “She has an energy and she just connects to human emotion. I think a big part was probably [seeing] Jaden after The Pursuit of Happyness. She saw what Jaden did, and she was like, ‘I want that.’”

Still, there shouldn’t be too much tension between the young Smiths. Smith says they have different styles – and goals.

“Jaden is [like] Johnny Depp,” Smith says. “He just wants to do good work . . . He loves acting, he just wants to make good movies.

“And Willow is Paris Hilton,” Smith says, laughing. “Willow wants to be on TV.”

Smith says his daughter’s strong personality contributes to her impressive work ethic. “You don’t work with Willow,” Smith says, teasing. “You work for Willow.”

In one grueling outdoor sequence for I Am Legend, temperatures dropped well below zero, Smith says – but that didn’t stop his daughter from finishing her scenes.

“Willow was out there and she has her stuff on and she’s cold and she’s getting a little irritable. And she looks at me and says, “Daddy, I don’t care how low it goes. I’m going to finish.’

Continues Smith: “I was like, ‘Wow, that’s good baby, because Daddy’s leaving if it goes any lower then that 1.”

Another reason for the strong sense of professionalism: Will and Jada Smith make their children audition for their films. But when they told Willow she nabbed the role in I Am Legend, Smith says she turned to her brother, already a screen veteran, stuck out her tongue and teasingly taunted him.

Will Smith has revealed the secret to his and Jada Pinkett Smith’s successful marriage – he is great in bed. The actor insists his prowess between the sheets keeps the couple’s union strong.

Smith boasts, “Really, really good sex.. I’m really good at it.”

And he is convinced age will only make him sexier: “I’m going to be so sexy when I’m older. You have no idea.”

Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed the new trailer for Will Smith’s highly-anticipated I Am Legend, opening in theaters on December 14. In the action-thriller, directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine), Smith plays brilliant scientist Robert Neville who could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world.

Jada says: 

I met Kate through Tom – I didn’t know her before Tom. I think everybody has this image: Poor little Kate, she doesn’t have the strength to take care of herself. People don’t know that behind all that grace is a tiger. I’ve witnessed it! I’ve had conversations with Kate personally where the tigress comes out of her, that fight.

There was one incident when I turned to Will – we were in their dining room, just the four of us, we were sitting and talking – Kate made a comment, and that was the moment I was like, “You know what? I can ride with her.” She made it very clear she wasn’t standing for people messing with her family. She is extremely protective. But at the same time she’s so graceful.

I can see how people wouldn’t see this, but when you look at Kate now [compared to] when she first met Tom, she’s more confident and more knowing who she is than ever before. You can see it in her pictures. She looks more beautiful and more confident and more assured. I’ve watched that metamorphosis – how Kate has blossomed into this woman. Because her life changed very quickly, she moved from one person into another.

On reports that Holmes is a ‘prisoner’:
It burns my soul – I see her in the house with Tom; he doesn’t have that on her! It kills me. ‘Tom’s this monster and he’s got her chained up in the basement and he’s forcing Scientology down her throat’ – it’s bulls—. Let me tell you: Kate ain’t no little wimpy kitty cat. It’s not that ballgame. For real.

I see how protective she is over her family and her husband. She very much carries the idea that people better not [mess] with my family. She gets fired up. When she gets to that mode, it makes me step back. I was like, ‘Okay!’ And Tom looks at me and goes, ‘See? See? Did you see that?’ And I go, “Yeah, I saw that – hell yeah.’ It amazes me.

She’s got a quiet thunder. When she walks into a room, or you see her in a magazine – it’s a thunder that people are attracted to. It’s quiet and it’s very subtle, but it’s extremely powerful. What’s great about Kate is that she doesn’t wear who she is on her sleeve, and that makes people so interested in her. That in itself is quite a power, and she knows it. Kate is smart, let me just put it like that.

People think Tom and the Church of Scientology got something on Kate? They don’t. Kate is running her own show. And she’s a great mother. Her kids – Connor, Bella, Suri – are some dynamic children and are extremely happy. And her husband is very, very happy.

They are a happy family. And they’re strong. The forces they have right now are amazing. They’re like any other loving family that just wants peace and harmony and to be able to thrive in a nurturing environment, in an energy that supports their union. And at the end of the day it’s really nobody’s business.
