As a loving mother to her three children with husband Will Smith – Trey, Jaden and Willow – Jada Pinkett Smith can draw from her experience for her role as a strong single momr on the TNT drama pilot, which she is also executive producing, Time Heals.
Pinkett Smith will play Nancy Hawthorne, which the network describes as the strong but caring director of a nursing hospital in North Carolina, a single mother who places the pain of others first.
In terms of her role off-screen, Pinkett Smith, 37, acknowledges that neither she nor Will exerts a particularly heavy hand.
“We’re not strict but we definitely believe it’s a very important component for rearing children,” she told People last month. “It creates safety for them. They understand that they need guidance.”
Still, if a member of their brood wants to sneak an extra sweet, Pinkett Smith acknowledges with a laugh that her husband is the more lenient one.
“He’s so lenient on that stuff,” she says with a sigh. “Daddy tends to [say], ‘Yeah! Have chocolate cake for dinner! It’s all right with me.’ I’ll come home and it’s just, ‘Has anyone had lunch?’ ‘Yeah, I had some Frosted Flakes!’ ”

Jada Pinkett-Smith regrets asking husband Will Smith to take a break from acting – because he has become a do-it-yourself fanatic.
Pinkett Smith admits she “might have made a mistake” when she begged the 39-year-old star to take a one-year hiatus after he finished promoting his latest action flick Hancock this year.
She says, “It’s been tricky. We just moved into the new house not too long ago and he’s basically knocking walls down, he’s digging up stuff. He’s beating it to death… I told him, ‘Going back to work after Thanksgiving may be a good idea’.
But the actress insists Smith’s added time with the family could lead to some promising new projects for the pair.
She adds: “He decided he wanted to focus on developing projects for the family… so now it’s all of these excruciating meetings about these movies and projects for the family that he wants to develop. But, you know, that’s a beautiful thing that he wants to do that.”

Will Smith is reportedly set to achieve one of his biggest ambitions – to play Egyptian pharaoh Taharqa on the big screen.
The Men in Black star has been cast as the ancient ruler in Braveheart writer Randall Wallace’s new movie The Last Pharaoh.
Entertainment website Variety.com reports that Smith has long wanted to play Taharqa and was instrumental in getting Wallace to write the screenplay.
The film will focus on Taharqa, who ruled Egypt from 690BC until 664BC, and his fierce battles with Assyrian king Esarhaddon.

Miley Cyrus is hoping to team up with Hollywood actor Will Smith for a special performance at this weekend’s Teen Choice Awards.
The ceremony is set to take place in Los Angeles on Sunday night, with Cyrus as host.
During the event, the teen and her best friend Mandy Jiroux are planning to stage a “dance-off” against Step Up 2: The Streets actor Adam Sevani – and the trio are hoping to invite Smith on stage to join them.
Sevani tells E! Online’s Marc Malkin, “Will Smith is so cool, I did the Kids Choice Awards with him, and he was just so cool. I wanted to use him for our (Teen Choice) performance, but I don’t know if he’s gonna be here.”

I don’t know why, but this totally shocked me. And makes me a little sad, not gonna lie.
‘Wholesome’ Hollywood couple, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, have revealed that the secret to the success of their 11 year marriage is that they have an ‘open relationship’. Speaking to Reveal magazine, Will had the following to say:
“Our perspective is, you don’t avoid what’s natural and you’re going to be attracted to people.” he says.
“And if it came down to it, then one would say to the other: ‘Look, I need to have sex with somebody. Now, I’m not going to if you don’t approve of it’.”
The 39-year-old star explains that the couple’s open policy has been in place from day one of their 10-year marriage.
“In our marriage vows, we didn’t say ‘forsaking all others’. We said ‘you will never hear I did something afterwards’. Because if that happens the relationship is destroyed.”
Other things that Will says are important in his relationship are keeping in shape for his “little firecracker” Jada, the “look in her eyes”, and communication.
“And lots of sex makes for a good marriage too!”

Will Smith teamed up with DJ Jazzy Jeff at the Hancock premiere after party in Los Angeles on Monday night to show fans and friends he can still rap.
After performing a brief medley of hits while hosting the Nelson Mandela 90th birthday party in London on Friday, Smith gave a repeat performance at the Hollywood High School, where 1978 movie Grease was shot.
The former hip-hop partners performed on a stage decorated with wrecked cars and prison cages.
Among the hits Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff performed were the theme from TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
The highlight of the show came when model-turned-actor Tyrese Gibson joined Smith onstage for a version of Getting’ Jiggy Wit It.
