Cohen, Ferrell Set for Sherlock Holmes Comedy

cohen_ferrell.jpg

Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell are reuniting for an as-yet-untitled comedy project about Sherlock Holmes. The movie would feature Cohen as the master detective and Ferrell as his assistant, Dr. Watson. It’s being written by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) and produced by Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller, who previously produced Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, in which the actors costarred. ”Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh,” Columbia Pictures copresident Matt Tolmach said in Variety. There’s no word on when the film is due to go into production; presently, Cohen is at work on Bruno, while Ferrell recently wrapped Land of the Lost and has Step Brothers coming out later this month.

This is the second project featuring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary sleuth currently in development at a major studio. A drama from director Guy Ritchie is in the works elsewhere.

Will Ferrell plans Anchorman return

Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell is set to return as 1970s newsman Ron Burgundy in a sequel to hit comedy Anchorman.

Director Adam McKay announced his plans for a second Anchorman film during an interview with website Collider.com over the weekend.

He revealed, “Will and I are like, ‘Let’s do Anchorman 2,’ so you’re talking, like, in two years, maybe we’ll do it. But we’re going to do it, for sure. We’re dying to do it.”

McKay insists the only thing that will scupper sequel plans will be if he and Ferrell cannot bring the original cast back.

He adds, “That’s always kind of a tricky thing. But, I think, with that cast we’re all friends, so yeah, we want to do it.”

The bear in Will Ferrell’s movie Semi-Pro killed its trainer

Will Ferrell

The grizzly bear featured in Will Ferrell’s movie Semi-Pro has attacked and killed a 39-year-old trainer at a Hollywood animal sanctuary.

Five year old Rocky was restrained with pepper spray after biting Stephan Miller on the neck at the Predators in Action facility in Big Bear, California, which is owned by his cousin Randy Miller.

Medics were called after the attack on Tuesday, but were unable to revive Miller.

Rocky, who is 7.5 feet tall and weighs 700 pounds, wrestled with Ferrell in his recent movie, and was recently described by Randy Miller as “the best bear in the business”.

The Department of Fish and Game will now decide Rocky’s fate, following an investigation.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in Step Brothers.

will_ferrell_john_c_reilly_stepbrothers1.jpg

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who last teamed in the box-office smash “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” now star in “Step Brothers,” directed by Adam McKay (“Talladega Nights”). In “Step Brothers,” Ferrell plays Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen). Reilly plays Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert (Richard Jenkins).

When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.

Movie is set to be released July 25, 2008!

Will Ferrell to do a comedy tour at seven US college campuses!

semi_pro_post.jpg

In the weeks leading up to the debut of his new comedy film “SEMI-PRO,” Will Ferrell will perform stand-up at seven U.S. college campuses, beginning Feb. 4 at Kansas State University’s Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.

Along with Ferrell, the college comedy trek, sponsored by FunnyOrDie.com, will feature comedians Zach Galifianakis, Demetri Martin and Nick Swardson. Ferrell will incorporate themes of the movie into his stand-up act, according to a spokesperson at Los Angeles-based Creative Artists Agency, which represents Ferrell in all areas.

As a promotional effort for the tour, comedians who submit videos of their act to FunnyOrDie.com will have a chance to be featured on arena video screens during the tour. Winners of the contest will also receive video placement on an exclusive section of the “SEMI-PRO” movie Web site.

Set in 1976, the new comedy features Ferrell playing Jackie Moon, a one-hit-wonder musician who uses his success to buy a basketball team. “SEMI-PRO,” which also features actors Woody Harrelson and OutKast’s Andre Benjamin, is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 29.

In related news, actor John C. Reilly, star of the upcoming comedy “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” has already begun a brief country-country club trek, where he performs in character. The seven-city promo tour started Dec. 3 at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, and wraps Dec. 19 at the Knitting Factory in New York.

Reilly, who plays mythical rock star Dewey Cox, will perform with backup band the Hard Walkers. Each concert will begin with a preview screening of the film, which opens Dec. 21.

Here are Will Ferrell’s North American tour dates:

Feb. 4: Manhattan, Kan. (Bramlage Coliseum – Kansas State University)
Feb. 5: East Lansing, Mich. (Jack Breslin Student Events Center – Michigan State University)
Feb. 6: Columbus, Ohio (Jerome Schottenstein Center – Ohio State University)
Feb. 11: University Park, Pa. (Bryce Jordan Center – Penn State University)
Feb. 12: Kingston, R.I. (the Ryan Center – University of Rhode Island)

Whoa! What a beard he’s got going on there! Hopefully it’s for a movie because it’s too hot right now to want to grow a beard that big.
