Will Ferrell is close to sealing a deal to revive his comedy newsreader character Ron Burgandy in a sequel to his hit 2004 Anchorman movie.
The funnyman is desperate to film a follow-up to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and admits he has been in talks with movie bosses to bring the character back for a second run. And Ferrell is convinced he is close to getting a green light for the project.
He says, “The odds are good. We’re going to talk to all the guys next week – Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd and everybody else – to see if it’s feasible to do it, because everybody’s at different places right now, with totally different schedules. Hopefully we can start filming in a couple of years.”
The stars of the new movie Land of the Lost came out for the premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Saturday night, including Anna Friel, Amy Brenneman and Brooke Shields
An Anchorman sequel might finally be moving forward.
Last year, Will Ferrell told EW.com that he and Anchorman director Adam McKay were working on a followup that would bring classy 1970s newsman Ron Burgandy into the 1980s.
On Monday, Ferrell, in Australia promoting Land of the Lost, told Aussie radio hosts Jono & Dano that he expected to meet with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell “next week” to discuss ideas…and salaries: “[Because] believe me, I’m not taking a pay-cut. No way!”

A man will do just about anything when braving the frozen tundra. And for an upcoming episode of the Discovery Channel series Man vs. Wild, Will Ferrell even drank urine.
Joining Bear Grylls for 48 hours in Sweden’s ice-bound mountain ranges, Ferrell tandem-abseiled off a helicopter, rappelled down hundred-foot frozen waterfalls and made snow shoes from saplings.
“To be able to participate in an episode of Man vs. Wild was a thrill of a lifetime, even though I did get urine-drunk, which is sad,” Ferrell said.
The interesting drink choice was paired with a meal of reindeer eyeballs.
“Will did an amazing job in subzero, very unforgiving conditions,” Grylls said. “He should be very proud of how he performed.” He added to Variety: “He trusted me when it mattered and we survived.”
Ferrell’s episode of Man vs. Wild will air the first week of June on Discovery, coinciding with his Land of the Lost debut, which hits theaters June 5.
Will Ferrell was left scarred by a teenage bully who threatened to shrink him.
The Elf star suffered nightmares about becoming the size of an ant after a neighborhood bully threatened to bring him down to size.
Ferrell recalls, “He threatened to put shrinking powder on me and I believed he had the ability to do that.
“He had some vial of something and said, ‘This is shrinking powder. You better watch it!’ Eventually my mom marched me over and told the kid to tell me it wasn’t real.”
