Vanessa Lachey Talks Babies & Breastfeeding For ‘American Baby’

Vanessa Lachey Talks Babies & Breastfeeding For 'American Baby'

Vanessa Lachey appears on the cover of the latest issue of “American Baby” and inside, she talks about her son Camden and raising a little human being.

She admits in the new issue of the magazine that she was forced to take things slow when settling into motherhood in 2012. She revealed, “Remember to be patient. It’s hard! As a baby, Camden would take about an hour to breastfeed. By the time he finished, it was almost time to feed again.”

She continued, “A friend reminded me that infants are learning everything for the first time. So who am I to say, ‘Hurry up and eat. We have to go?’ I tried to look at that time as an opportunity to love on him.”

Now that she’s set to welcome her second child just after the holidays, Vanessa is more confident in her parenting role and wants other mamas to embrace the exciting moment in their lives.

“Worrying is a waste of time. Once Camden was born, certain fears calmed down,” she says. “I no longer thought, ‘Will I be able to do this?’ My instincts really did kick in.”

She adds, “We stumble and make mistakes, too, but that’s what learning is. That’s the beauty of it. Every mother out there knows what she’s doing, whether she believes it yet or not.”

Oh, and one more thing, she adds: Don’t let fellow mothers and their “best moments” on social media put a damper on your day.

“Don’t feel like you’re not doing enough when you see a mom posting about making applesauce after you bought it,” she says with a laugh. “It’s fine! Just for raising a little human being you should be commended.”

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo Are Expecting Again!

Exclusive... Exclusive...Vanessa Minillo and Nick Lachey Seem Very Much In Love!

Earlier today, Vanessa Minillo’s and husband Nick Lachey  announced via Twitter that they are expecting their second child together!

He shared a photo on the beach with “It’s a girl” written in the sand, and captioned the shot, “Can’t think of a better way to celebrate 3 years of marriage to my beautiful @VanessaLachey than this! #family.” The television personality, 33, gave birth to her first child, son Camden John, in September 2012 and wed Lachey, now 40, in July 2011.

Minillo was very open about her postpartum struggles with her son Camden, and even blogged about her experience:

“No matter how many books you read, NOTHING prepares you better than the real thing,” she wrote in March 2013 about her first experience with motherhood. “I felt lost, unloved, alone and at my wits end.”

“I didn’t feel like myself,” she continued. “Where was the super woman who always thought and knew she could do it all? Where was the organized Vanessa who had it all under control no matter what the obstacle? She was gone, and I thought… forever.”

I think it’s really admirable when women can open up about their postpartum struggles.  It’s such a personal, emotional, and difficult thing to go through, and you really can feel incredibly isolated and alone.  So when high profile figures can bring attention and awareness to these things- it can only help other women who are struggling and feeling alone.

Congrats to the family on their new little bun in the oven!
